Check your hose clamps?

When was the last time you checked your hose clamps? How did you check?
The reason I bring this up is because it just so happened that I had 2 break or fail at the same exact time. Just started heading home from an outing engine not yet warm just getting on Hwy ramp and dash starts flashing check engine. Pull over walk back and see all the coolant pouring on the ground. I shut her down and scratched my head, look underneath and both bottom clams are broken at the crimp. I had no replacement clamps so I did what all good mechanics would do... I got out the coat hanger and wrapped and tighten the wire to use as a temporary clamp. Hooked up the water hose and filled her back up put the radiator cap on to the fist click so not to pressurize the system. No leaks and drove back home. I went over all the clamps and replaced about 7 clamps. Took a pair of pliers and would twist the clamp just slightly and snap the old clamps just broke off. Replace all with high end stainless steel clamps...

Thank you for bringing that to the members attention. It should be part of at least your annual maintenance schedule.

Thanks for the heads-up! I will be doing that before the next trip!
