Class C purchase

For several years I have desired to buy a new or late model Class C, less than 30', but chose a travel trailer because I have a tow vehicle. Now that my tow vehicle lease is ending this year I am trying to decide if I should lease another truck, keep the trailer or buy the motor home.

I have read many posts about class C motor homes on this and other sites and most of them are not good. People talk about picking up new units and cabinets falling off on the way home, slides not working, plumbing, heating and electrical problems and not being able to use the RV because it is in the shop for warranty work for long periods. They also talk about having to spend a lot of money to make the vehicle safely drive able. Are all these issues common to all Class C's or am I just reading the negative posts? Are there any posts that have positive information about Class C motor homes? Has anyone bought one and not had more problems than they are worth?

I don't think this is isolated to only Class Cs. I suspect they make up the majority of motor homes.

I have a 2012 and very few problems. Some things people do to the suspension is way not needed. I have over 95000 miles on ours and tow a car trailer. V10 does great. Front end alignment first off, track bar, and better shocks later on if not there already.

I bought a new Class C in 1997. The house portion of it caused us very little problem.

Most of my issues were with the Ford Chassis. (2 exhaust manifolds, transmission, engine oil pump, front end alignment issues, original tires). First exhaust manifold was under warranty and took +3 months to fix, the rest was on my dime. I am not a Ford fan after that fiasco.

I see similar problems with all make/models of RV's, I don't think it is specific to Class C's.
My advice is to look at a number of different brands specifically looking for quality problems. If you can find them on a showroom floor you can bet there were more at the factory that had already been fixed.
Also look at ratings by manufacturers, there are some for good quality products.

I've never camped in one, but I've been pretty impressed with the Sprinter-based class Cs that I've walked through. In my opinion, they seem to be markedly higher-quality than the others (probably because they are so much more expensive). But like I said, I've never camped in one. They might "show" well but be no better once you're staying in them.

You may also want to consider some of the shorter gas class As. I have camped in those, and they're great.
