Clearance for RV at Major Metro Airports?
I plan on dropping off my wife at ATL (Hartsfield) and pick her up at DTW (Detroit) Airports with my Tiffin Wayfarer next month. I need about 13 feet clearance. I don't know if Arrival and Departure lanes have overhead obstructions. Is there an App for this? Will I have a problem?

I believe many do to prevent large trucks from getting near the airport structure as part of terrorist prevention.

Why not just stop a few blocks outside the airport and hire a cab to take her in. When she lands, text her where you're parked and have her grab a taxi out.
You MIGHT be allowed in, but with security the way it is, you might get taken out at gunpoint if you park an RV in front of a terminal to drop her off.

I suggest you call the airport and ask.

I've been to ATL numerous times. I don't know about the overhead clearance, but no way I would try to drive through the departure lane with an RV. It's chaos enough as it is, with 4 very tight lanes of people dropping off passengers, police trying to direct traffic, blowing whistles, etc. I don't imagine anyone would take very kindly to a big RV blocking the way. I've never used them, but I think there are outside parking lots where you can take a shuttle to and from the airport. That would be a much better option. Also, many of the local hotels run a shuttle that's free if you stay the night, but you might be able to work something out to park there.

* I also have been to the ATL airport many times, never in an RV though.
* Even though you would not drive an RV through the departure lane, I would if there are no restrictions against doing so.
* Our RV is not much larger than a commercial courier van (it's a medium sized Class B, not a Class A) and would not "block the way" anymore than a passenger car.
* I appreciate the alternative options you have offered.

We don't have the low-profile A/C and added a couple antennas. It's about 12 ft 6 inches high now.

I have contacted Atlanta Airport with my concerns. When I get their answer I will follow-up on this forum with their response so others will benefit from my experience.

I just received this response from the Atlanta Airport:

Hello William,
Thank you for your email to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. In reference to your inquiry, you can drive to the lower level (left lanes) upon approaching the terminal. This is also the area where charter busses pick up/drop off as well.

I agree. They can give you the correct information.
Also, you might want to use Google View and aim it on the various parking lot entrances to see if you can spot an obstacle or a clearance sign.
OOPS! Sorry, I didn't read that you already had & got your answer. Good for you.

A few years ago I droppedoff and picked DW at SFO knowing that buses serve airports.
The interesting thing was being approached by police after parking the MH. There is so little crime in Califonia that they enforce no parking 2 am to 4 am. Once I explained I was not setting up camp but waiting for my wife's plane to arrive, they left me alone.
Another way is using a hotel shuttle. Waiting in a hotel lobby is more pleasant. I would not recomend this around SFO because of hotel parking. Often did it at Washington Dulles and DFW.
