Hi Ken, it sounds like from your initial post that your plan is to go from a S/B home to full time RVing, or at least living in the RV full time.
And I think you are correct that your questions are very general in nature, to general for any type of useful informative response from this forum. But with that said, I would offer one suggestion, that IF you have never been camping or RVing for more than a weekend or so, that you take the time get some basic experience camping and talking to people face to face and looking at their RV's before you make a significant financial investment in an RV.

Here is my 2 cents worth about your questions. With our Motor home we have always stayed less than 40' because I don't want the issues of not being able to get into places that require a shorter length. The one we have now is 37' and it's never been a problem, and with 4 slides it's plenty big inside for my wife and I. I have a gas MH, it was the floor plan my wanted and it's never been a problem. We always travel with a toad, towed four flat and it's a must have for my wife and I. Good Luck with your plans, it will be quite an adventure.
