The plastic overflow bottle does not connect to the dash warning light, nor is it a reliable method of determining coolant level.
The coolant system should have an "expansion tank" with a standard radiator cap. (this is between overflow bottle and actual radiator) There is usually a sight-glass on one end/side. That is the manual-method of determining coolant level.
When your engine coolant is cold, remove that radiator cap and look inside to double-check the sight-glass level. If coolant is low, fill to top of radiator cap neck and replace cap.
When coolant expands it will flow into the overflow bottle. Then when the engine cools and coolant contracts, it sucks coolant from the overflow bottle.
Fill coolant bottle to the "full cold" mark every time coolant level drops below the line.
