Smile Cornerstone United Warranty

Good afternoon fellow Rvers. After doing some googling on the topic of my warranty and finding nothing helpfully, I thought I'd take a chance to subject myself to Newbie ridicule here if it gets me the answer I need. So here goes.
When we bought our 2014 Keystone naturally they sold us on the warranty. Well now I want to use that warranty and I don't want to get scammed to do it. I have a refrigerator that needs replacing- NOT fixed in this "Covid Crazy/lack of help and parts" environment we find ourselves in. I also want a new water heater. Now for the stupid question! How do I get them to pay for replacing and not repairing? The dealership where I bought it at does not have a great service department (Experienced opinion) and it could be sitting in their bay for months before they get around to even looking at it let alone fixing it. I think we could replace all of these components ourselves. Will Cornerstone pay the claim if I do?? Please forgive my ignorance as I've never had a warranty before, but I'm confident I'll get real answers here. Any advice is much appreciated.

You don't have a choice. Take it to a quality shop (if you can find one) and advise them you would prefer a replacement if possible, and hope that the service people will give a convincing story to the insurance adjuster. But the adjuster gets to decide and there is no appeal. Frankly, chances of getting a replacement for either of those things is slim - both are typically repairable. Water heaters especially - every part is readily replaceable.

Welcome to the forum. The warranty company will do what is most cost effective for them and that's all. If the unit can be repaired that's the course they will take. Your best bet is to contact them and explain your situation and see what they say.

If it's repairable, That's ALL they are probably required to do. Read the contract Replacement is highly unlikely. The service center would have to convince them and many times they will send an inspector. I hate service contracts but with the way they build this stuff now, I'm not so sure. I would find an independent or mobile service that will work with the service contract

It is NOT a warranty...it is a Service Contract/Policy
Cornerstone will dictate what/how an item will be taken care of....repair/replace OR deny claim

YOU need to pull out the Full Contract and read:
HOW to file a Claim
How claims are paid for
Exclusions Clauses
Requirements to maintain valid contract

Everything in that Service Contract is biased towards Cornerstone
How do you think they stay in business and make profits!

READ what Cornerstone has written in that Service Contract before you do ANYTHING

CornerStone will not pay for anything they have not pre-approved. This means that if you have repairs done that would normally be covered by CornerStone and you don't get it approved before the work is done, CornerStone will deny the claim.

Extended service contracts are like insurance; if you never need it, it will seem like a waste of money!

I have had very good luck with Cornerstone! I think the key is finding a shop that has a good working relationship with Cornerstone. They replaced, rather than repaired, everything that ever failed on my 2016 toy hauler. They even replaced all the spring shackles (with much heavier duty ones) when one broke. My shop owner called them and explained that once one goes, they will all follow. Cornerstone didn't blink, and pre-authorized him to do it. The best part.... I was completely out of the loop! I dropped off the trailer, and picked it up when it was done!

Needless to say, I bought the same 7 year service contract from Cornerstone on my new Thor Omni last year.

On my Newmar, Good Sam quoted me $4000 a year. Needless to say, I’m self insuring when it comes to an extended warranty. Let me see, 7 years times $4000. That’s $28,000 and you’d have to be stupid to fall for that much. But I reckon it’s a good business to be in if you can find a sucker.
