My take is (keeping in mind that we aren't wealthy by any means):
We are pleased to find campgrounds open at all.
I have not encountered gouging.

The owners and workers (usually family) are taking a risk to survive. Cut them some slack.

My experience is that most of them are taking a financial beating being open with very few customers. I want to give them their normal rent. Times are hard. Be Kind.

The private RV park we are at in northern Arizona is open and just about totally full. The monthly site rental we pay works out to about $25/day including water, electricity, sewer hookup and (poor) WiFi.

I am full time and do not have a physical residence. I usually pay by the month to get a better rate. The RV Park I was at in FL was full because all FL State Parks were closed. They decided to raise their rate. I asked for a discount because all amenities were closed, no pool, shuffle board, horse shoes etc. and I had already been there several months. They said NO, so I left and went to GA for a month and am now in MO for a month at half the rate.

You said the Florida RV park was full. If they are filling at full price, why on earth should they offer a discount?

I understand the mentality on this but if they are full, why raise their rates? I smell a skunk.

We have never used RV park bathhouses, playgrounds, swimming pools, laundry facilities or meeting spaces. They still always charge us full price anyway. I've never seen one with a la carte pricing. It has nothing to do with Covid-19.

If they raised the rate too far it may come under the emergency price gouging regulations. Florida is quite aggressive with enforcement. If the raise was indeed excessive, you could help other folks out by calling the hot line at 1-866-966-7226.

Have fun and stay healthy.

While it would be nice of them to discount their price, they're under no obligation to do so. And they're probably not happy about the arbitrary decisions to shut them down for no logical reason. Law of supply and demand.

Without all the facts we don't really know. Did they actually raise the rates or simply decide to no longer give summer discounts. Not the same thing. FL parks frequently offer discounted pricing in summer because of low occupancy. If low occupancy is no longer an issue then they would not need to give discounted summer rates.

I rather put my $$$ into an acre of land to camp on, instead of giving it to a campground every month.

I'd rather boondock dispersed for free.

Sometimes you can when the powers that be will let you. There may come a time when all are shut down for a long time.... who knows the future. I rather pay my own way.

Even though amenities may be closed or reduced, RV parks(all business's actually) are now encountering increased operating expenses, multiple cleanings every day where employees work and interact with customers is expensive and time-consuming when performed properly. Employees cannot work as quickly as before while exercising the necessary precautions, adding to labor expenses; the list is long.

We have the means to stay at any RV park, however we choose to stay home this summer, which keeps us less likely to become infected with this virus.(I fit ALL the high risk criteria for not surviving this virus)
