could trim questions. Normal or do I need to fix?

I just picked up a new 2 me class A. First thing was I got up to fix some seals on the roof.

I noticed a couple things on the roof trim and wanted to know if they needed fixing and/or just sealing.

there is a trim peice that runs along both side walls right near the roof. its a c channel type with a plastic insert over it.

First question: the channel seems to be cut short near the top? is this normal for drainage or should it have no opening?

Secion question, Should I seal the plastic peice that fits in the trim or does it just need to sit in the c channel?

as a FYI, I know the roof needs to be re-coated. I will be doing a roof job in the next couple months with rv roof magic. right now, I want to make sure that I have it sealed appropriately first though.
