Counterfeit Safe-T-Alert CO/LP Alarms

Purchased a Safe-T-Alert 35-742 in August 2024 from Amazon and was notified it was possibly a counterfeit unit. Amazon credited back my purchase and I ordered a replacement this time the seller & shipper was Amazon. The original seller was RVday & shipped by Amazon. Ironically, the replacement does not look as nice as the counterfeit. But having worked in manufacturing I have seen plenty of counterfeit products that were practically impossible to detect with some packaging looking better than our own. Here is a link to MTIIndustries for more information.

Be Safe!!

Pretty sad when items you count on for safety may be counterfeit and possibly not work.

This actually is not uncommon on Amazon. A lot of the 'companies' selling are foreign based. You have to research the seller before buying.

I think most of the products "shipped and sold" by Amazon are legitimate.
Same with Ebay.

The first one I ordered was identical to this link with one exception - the seller was RVday but shipper was Amazon.

My original one was replaced at 9 years and the documentation with the new one said to replace it 5 years after installation. Purchased it twice from Camping World, a MTI authorized seller, but they only lasted about two years each before failing. At one point they were hard to find so I purchased a battery operated detector as backup. Even though we are totally electric and rarely boondock overnight, it is like having TPMS for the tires. Once you have it, it is hard not to have it.

That web site is nearly useless as it does not show how to spot the fake as it does not show what a real one looks like.

Unfortunately things like that have been counterfeit for some time sad since it is a safety item. Just as bad as the nest smoke alarm i purchased where google does not support it anymore yet they still produce it. A counterfeit unit would work better than this pc of junk and i jumped through hoops with warranty and they still ignored my claim $200 in the trash

The other thing to consider is the "counterfeits" of many items showing up on the market are often built in the same factory in China as the real thing, they were just imported by a 3rd party so the company does not make any money off of them. Other times they are actual knock offs, and if you look closely you can spot the differences, seems / screw holes don't line up, etc., but as I mentioned above since MTI only shows the counterfeit and not the real thing on their web site we have no way to know what to look for to tell if we have the real thing or not.
