Interesting.

I had COVID in August. Didn't really lose sense of smell, but my sinuses were so stopped up, I was probably not at 100%. Really bad cold for me, wife actually had it worse, with even a fever.

BTW, tests were useless. I had symptoms of cold, then next day she did. I took test negative, 2 days later she was positive, 2 days later, I was negative, 2 days later, she was still positive. Pretty similar symptoms.

I have the more sensitive nose for dangers (natural gas, electrical fire, etc.) while wife is more sensitive to aromas, etc.

I did think I had an issue on last camping trip when I couldn't smell the propane, but turned out my tank was empty and I needed to open the other valve...

Propane has no smell.....that is why Ethyl mercaptan is added to propane/natural gas----also known as Ethanethiol

Fortunately, that is what LP Detectors do. Detect Propane Leaks.

Makes one wonder...........Gas Detectors for home??
I have Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors......but no GAS Detectors
**SHE has a nose like a Blood Hound and is always asking me "Do you smell that?" Uh-------NO!

What does being careless with a gas stove have to do with covid? If the flame went out wouldn't the food they were cooking be cold?

KCharles, COVID usually affects the human sense of smell. LP detectors is a misnomer, they are actually combustible gas detectors, not just LP. Even a nearby flatulent sleeping dog can trigger these detectors.

If you know any firefighters ask them if they think it's "drama". We had a couple of house fires where the residents had COVID and no smoke detectors. One fire was at night.

Do that math.

Smoke detectors were recognized as invaluable safety devices long before COVID. COVID has been connected to many symptoms and outcomes but I don’t believe house fires are one of them.
