That is one of those things that can catch you off guard. I pay attention to local weather forecasts when ever traveling. Our radio has the National Weather built in and I listen quite often.

Yep! That or a blast after a tractor trailer passes. That's also exciting!

Sounds like you need a steering stabilizer! Keep her between the ditches!

We were in Charlotte, NC a couple weeks back when the Carolina's got hammered by the weather. On our way home, went up the Delmarva peninsula and stayed two nights there just to miss the wind! Best move to make. When the trucks are pulled over, I don't care what you do for steering stabilizers, its that bad!

Head or tail winds are one thing. Cross winds are something else. I get some relief with my tag axle but I still hate them.

The CHP closed a stretch of the 395 recently and all high profile rigs were sent to a small truck stop. Although it delayed my trip by a few hours, at least I had all the perks of the home on wheels. Those high winds especially the unexpected ones scare the crap out of me.

Last spring we were headed up 25 from New Mexico into Colorado. Wind started to pick up but by the time it was really kicking up we were in a construction zone, one lane, with cones on the right side, and big dropoff (no shoulder) on the left. NO place to pull off, no exits. Probably only 15-20 miles, but seemed like 100. I could only do about 40 mph, line behind me of cars went forever. That was frustrating, would have gladly pulled off if I had been able.
