When we decided to do our trial RV trip last year we took a newly refurbed Cruise America 28A from Mesa to Manassas under their "rolling out of Arizona" program. We visited family back east and then flew home (fun but stressful too, but that's another story). It was a nice rig in decent shape, about 135k miles on it. I agree it was pretty basic. When we decided to buy our own I went the Craigslist route but I wanted a Class A. I wound up buying a low mileage older (97) Bounder for a lot less than a CA refurb, but it has needed some fixing up.
