CW and "Next Day Delivery" (Rant)
I resealed the big seams in the roof this week. When stripping off the old sealant (what fun!), I found the shower dome was cracking from age and sun exposure. Early Monday morning, I searched high and low, looking for someone who could deliver the next day.
CW said they could! Great! I was happy to pay a premium for next day delivery to get the project done in one shot. That premium was about $50.
But then, it didn't arrive as promised. With impending rainy weather, I had no choice but to reseal the old dome in place. I called CW to cancel the order, and then...
- I learned it was a "vendor order," a drop shipment, and they had no real control over the shipment date, never mind the arrival date.
- They were unable to cancel the order on the spot. They had to send an e-mail to the vendor, and hope it would be read in time to cancel it before it shipped.
- Needless to say, it shipped from the actual supplier. CW was unable to provide a tracking number so I could contact the shipping company, which as it happens wasn't even the one they said would be used! They told me I should get an e-mail with a tracking number...which never arrived.
- The best they could offer was to wait for it to arrive and then call for return instructions. But I happened to be in the driveway when UPS (not FedEx!) pulled in yesterday, and I refused delivery.
- I called today, and was told they couldn't help me because their "Customer Service" department...doesn't work on weekends. Uh...OK...
I ordered the new dome from Amazon. It'll be here midweek, at which point I'll remove all the sealant (again), replace the dome, and seal it up. If CW doesn't credit my card promptly, I'll dispute the charge.
You just can't make up customer service stories like this. My advice: If you need next-day delivery, and you are contemplating CW as a the seller, ask whether they stock it or it's a drop ship. Insist they answer the question clearly. If the latter, or they don't know, look elsewhere. If the former...hope for the best, I suppose. I have no experience ordering anything from them for next day delivery except for this one.
For myself? CW just moved to the bottom of the list of suppliers. "On the roof again" ain't "on the road again"!

I've learned from similar experiences to always ask either by telephone or email if the items are in stock before completing the order. They hit your credit card immediately for the charge but take weeks upon weeks to refund if there's an issue.

You know you're in for a new experience when your TP has a grit rating... Personally I'd prefer the old fashioned, soft kind but I can see where dietary changes could bring a need for 60 grit...

I won't give them weeks before disputing the charge. I've been "working with the merchant" to "resolve the issue" already.

Really? You used CW after all the positive posts about it? LOL
Call the credit card company and deny the charge

I have had the same delay with Amazon and 2 day shipping from a third party. They don't actually say you will receive it in two days just that once they get around to shipping it it will arrive in two days. The answer is pay attention and don't buy when it says third party only order things that come from the website warehouse. Seems like everyone is doing that nowadays Walmart, Best Buy Home Depot .......

Amazon is my first choice these days, camping world always is last. It has gotten better lately but for the past couple months ALL shipping that wasn't food or medicine has been slow. I ordered a couple things that were supposed to be 2 day deliveries from Amazon that each took two weeks.

Another reason I will never purchase anything online from CW, or even their stores for that matter. They should say it is a "drop shipment" rather than "in stock" where you call. Also, CW is nowhere near competitive in pricing any longer which is another reason I shy away from them. Granted - a lot of people love CW, and that's OK too.

Just think the new dome could already be installed and done ........no returns, no CC disputing, No phone tag/hassles

I also have stopped using CW for buying or repairs after being bilked for a $250 trailer wiring repair on a trip that was unsuccessful; and then was refused a refund when I returned the next day. Worse, when I explained to the manager where the problem was and how to fix it he offered me a job!!! Sad another U.S. company that won't make it due to poor customer service.

Horse pucky.
I paid a $50 premium to have it delivered quickly enough to beat impending, forecasted weather so I wouldn't have to do that part of the roof resealing job twice. That didn't happen. It's been rainy, cold, and even snowy since until today--and it's windy today...I don't want tree detritus blown all over fresh sealant.
Now that I must reseal the dome again, it does not particularly matter when. But as it happens, it could not and can't be done before the new one arrives. it's been raining and cold and breezy here. It even snowed yesterday! I need a dry, warm, calm day (preferably two) to do the job (an hour or two) and allow the sealant to cure and be ready for rain (24+ hours recommended).
According to NOAA, I won't get that weather until later this week, by which time the new dome will be in hand. And if it's not, I'll catch the next slot.
A few phone calls to get my money back and save $50 overall seem pretty well-justified to me. My nose is out of joint, but still firmly attached.
