Dash camera recorders. What is available
Good morning I am interested in a dash camera to record some portions of my trip while driving through Yellowstone, Pacific coast hwy, etc. Most of what I see on Amazon record in clips basically for accident or other reasons. I want to record continuously. I know very little about this. I see go-pro cameras that are pricey. The cheaper models do not record continuously. I would like to be able to plug the camera in vice run off batteries if possible.
What should I be looking for? Any brand or models that will do what I want? Or am I stuck with the pricey go-pro?
Thanks

Dash cam recording
Given the space we all have in our rigs and the available inverted power and the generally poor quality of available dash cams, why not just install a cctv system with solid state drive. Very reliable.

I am afraid that is above my skill set. I like simplicity and portable. Mostly want it for dual purpose to record in clips like most of the ones I see for sale but with the additional option to record continuously for scenery with the ability to save as a file on the media card.

You could consider a DJI Osmo Pocket. It ould be easy to use as a trip recorder, as well as outside whan you are parked. Very feature laden; tracking, slo-mo, time and motion lapse, image stabilization, and more. You can even get a waterproof case for it.

Okay, this is what I have so it's my opinion. I have a VIOFO A119 V3 and It's great. I'm sure as with most cameras, it records and plays back in 10 minute clips but each clip is continuous during playback. A lot depends what size memory card you use as to how much you can record before it starts pushing things off at the beginning. I have a 128 GB card and that a lot of recording, you can go up to a 265 GB. It is powered by USB adapter and has a capacitor rather than internal batteries. Search reviews not just Amazon reviews https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...59FCCC03D95AE1. Also the play back method is important. I use Dashcam Viewer, https://dashcamviewer.com/ to play back. Not only a great playback program, it also shows your position on the map among other things. It's not portable as you can carry it around but then again most are not.

That's the one I'm going to get, it was recommended on the Grand Adventure vblog and has a lot of good features, not just as a dash cam but for carrying around on hikes and such. It is about $300 and has a lot of accessories that can run up the price so it is not cheap.

You might want to look at the camera, accessories and mounting offerings from GitUP and an associated review of one of them at DashCamTalk
These are basically GoPro knockoffs at substantially lower pricing. I purchased one a couple of years ago for my grandson which he has been using on his surf board with no problems.
