Dash cameras

What is the easiest and economical dash camera? I currently have a cheap one that is difficult to use. Lots of menus and button switching. What is everyone using and how do you like it?

I have one. Don't remember the name though.

Turn it on, forget it. (basically). If you want to review the footage you can play on the little 2" screen or pop out the SD card and play and save it on the computer.

Okay, just for you Tim I went out and searched for the one I have. It is the Thinkware x500D and includes a rear camera if so inclined to install it. (Could put it on the TOAD for daily home trips).

In October of last year it was rated #2 just below the Garman 55 in the top ten.

What! Mary didn't buy you enough for Christmas?

I had a Rexing in our old Allegro Bus and bought another one for our new coach. Bought another Rexing camera with a 128GB card. I'm not too interested in the technology, just think it's a cheap insurance policy if I need it.

I use a Z Edge Z3 one in our class A, its a basic model but does the job.

Both our daily drivers have more advanced Wheel Witness models with lane departure and collision warning.

I would not want a lane departure one in my coach as it even in my truck it alerts often. In my class A it would constantly alert due to its width.

Got plenty, it's just that we're planning a trip into Texas so I thought I might get ready!

Optics is what you want. video is no good to you if nothing can be seen. so never buy the lowest price stuff, as it’s junk.
some of the newer cams are plug n play. come with a rear cam. have gps. etc.
cost a bit more than a couple bills. but can save you BIG time.

The Thinkware has great video, 1080P.

Tim,

Have you considered the GoPro? Nice little gadget and you can stick it in your shirt pocket and take touring pictures when you want to. On the uppity side of price but hey, with your new job you ca afford it.

I'd hate to have the GoPro setting in my window all the time. Would be like an invitation to bad guys. I was worried the whole time I was displaying my antlers that someone might grab and run with them. Got some shady looking characters walking up and snapping pics of them.

Well, when you are just parked you don't need the GoPro so just unscrew one knob and remove it. I do that with anything I have in the window - no antlers though. I tried the antlers once but the deer kept running away.

You can do the same to the antlers if you drive with them going down the road. When you park, just remove them. Keeps RVM's from snapping pictures to harass you.

Smart gear plug and play $25. Doesn’t get any easier or cheaper than this. 5 mega pixel video is very clear. 32GB Continuous loop recording. Wide angle, infrared night time recording as well. After I was side swiped I went out and bought one. The guy lied to the cop and the insurance company. No one was charged and my insurance had to cover my vehicle. Next day I went out and got this. I’ll have proof from now on.

I have a Garmin Dashcam 45. It's plugged in just behind my front tv with a 12v plug I have wired back to a fused circuit in the panel. When we turn on the key the camera starts up. We've got a 32GB card in it and I basically forget its there. We don't take pictures review the files, etc and have it set to auto-overwrite the oldest files.

It does lane guidance, proximity monitoring and has inside sound but who want's to hear me call the car drivers a$$holes on each recording so I turned that off in the settings?
