Daytona 500 driver motor homes ?

Hi , just watching FS1 tv driver interviews at the Daytona 500 . Trevor Bayne and family next to Newmar mountain air . Elliot Sadler next to "I think " an Entegra . Danica Patrick next to a red tag axle "brand unknown". Any body have a list of the motorhome brands used by NASCAR drivers/teams?

When I work the NASCAR race at the AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY in Fontana, CA I often pick up drivers in the infield at their coach. I've seen everything from most fo the "upper end" coach builders to include, Newmar, Newell, Prevost built by Marathon, Superior etc etc

Thanks , I just read that. Featherlite is official nascar coach. I hope that the tiffin's do not get stuck in red bay on the way to from Daytona.

I have seen different motorhomes for sale from dealers as "Used / owned by XXX driver". I suspect comfortable arrangements are negotiated by some then the coaches are sold at the end of the year to people who will pay a premium for a unit having been used by "celebrities". This is either a good example of supply & demand, or an example of the P.T. Barnum theory. Your choice depends on what you think of NASCAR.

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, (NASCAR), does not require teams/drivers to buy and use any of the many "official NASCAR products"... (like Featherlite coaches).

However certain "brand name products", (safety equipment, Goodyear tires and Sunoco Green E15 racing fuel), are required by NASCAR for use in/on NASCAR race cars and trucks.

Featherlite PAYS to be the official coach 'sponsor' of Nascar, just like any other advertiser

Three years ago DW and I were staying in a park south of Houston, Texas and watched the Daytona 500 on Sunday and then headed to Tonto Basin the next morning. Tonto Basin is about 50 miles east of Phoenix.

I've always thought it would be neat to drive a Nascar transport truck or maybe even one of the coaches the drivers stay in during the races. You know the race drivers don't drive them from track to track.

Well, three years ago the next race was in Phoenix, so I'm wondering if any of the trucks or motorhomes will catch us before we get to our turnoff in Arizona. I was driving about 70 miles an hour the second day, in west Texas, when three transports passed us making me look like I was setting still. Then about ten minutes later here comes two fancy motorhomes pulling pickups with a golf cart in their beds. My dear wife was in the back sleeping so I decided to try to find out how fast they were going. She came back to the front as I got this old motorhome up to 89 miles an hour and still wasn't gaining on them. She made me slow down so I never did find out how fast they were going.

But wow, to come out of Daytona while I started out from Houston, and catch me in a day and a half, they were moving. Then the next weekend we were watching the Phoenix race and they were talking about the miles the transports hauling equipment had to cover, they left Daytona Sunday night, when back to Charlotte and changed out cars and equipment and then drove to Phoenix for prep by Tuesday. Well I know some of them made it.

And no, my wife won't let me be a transport driver.

A number of years ago, we had a 5th wheel and needed a generic RV part. The only place close that had it was the Newell factory in Miami, OK. The receptionist had a chalk board behind her desk with a list of coaches being built. We recognized a number names as being race car drivers.

2 sets of rigs... one going to Daytona. other going to Phoenix

the Phoenix rig was being loaded during the Daytona race.. and departed on Monday..

I knew a rig driver 5 years back for the #78.

the drivers Coach is the drivers responsibility.. paid friend or relative doing the driving.

And if time is tight they will team drive the transports & the driver's/crew's RV, stopping only for fuel and "slider's to go"...

Yep, our last race of the year is always in Phoenix the week before the November NASCAR race. I have met that caravan headed west as we were going east on I-10. Along with the MH's there must be 200 transports for the teams and TV production equipment. That's where I got the idea of towing a F150 with a golf cart in the bed. We must have passed 2 dozen of them each year. Most of the were towing 1/2 ton Chevys.

There are a number of companies that own Prevost and other high line coaches that are rented to NASCAR stars and music acts--with drivers.

Many coaches operate out of Nashville because it's in the middle of the country and the road crews of many world class entertainers and rock groups are out of there. Last time I heard, there were over 200 coaches with Tennessee license plates.

I rode by a local bus rental company last week, and they had over a dozen custom Prevost coaches sitting on their lot.

I used to drive to Nashville for work meetings, and would occasionally see unpainted Prevost "Shells" being driven south - probably to a coach conversion company. It was not a good idea to be in front of one of these things in the left lane since they probably took lessons from NASCAR coach drivers.
