On one camping trip, My Ford class C would just die,I'd pull over, wait 20 minutes, it started and I went on. It happened again, then when It happened the third time, I was just leaving Sonora and about to climb and in mainly in a single lane, so My wife fixed lunch as it cooled down, and we headed home. I replaced both electric modules, the one inside the dist. & and the one on the firewall.
about two years later, it started to act up again.sold the damn thing

Glad you identified the problem and have it fixed.

Changing a fuel pump can be intimidating to some people but it reality it is relatively simple and can be cheap if the shop doesn't take advantage of you. I replaced mine, never had done one before but watch a couple Youtube videos, ordered the pump ($35 Ebay) and changed it in about 3 hours. No special tools, just a little messy.
