Dentist, Progreso MX

Went to the dentist today to have a crown replaced and 4 new cavities taken care of that our reg dentist in Mich suggested having done last summer which I declined then. The crown cost would have been $2200 with my Delta Dental co-pay being $650, and that would not include a root canal cost if it were also needed TBD.

I brought my X-Rays with me and explained to Dr. Portillo which crown was subject. He poked around and checked the crown very close and determined it was solid and did not need replacing. After cleaning, he could not find any new cavities.

His dentist fees are:
Cleaning - $25
Cavity - $45
Crown - $250, ($400 for porcelain).

Dr Portillio is located on main street, on the first block across the bridge on the east side.

Note - I think a person could book a cruise to Cozumel, MX and schedule a dentist appt there. The $$ saved on the dental visit might cover the cost of the cruise! Always get a second opinion!!

$2200 for a crown? That's ridiculous.

The going rate for crowns around here is $850. Most go to a husband/wife root canal specialists that charge $850--cash and ATM accepted only. Takes 2 office visits to get the crown installed by a regular dentist.

I have a dentist that has a table top CNC machine that carves crowns in 6 minutes. She scans the mouth with a computer and a wand. Total time is 1 hour and she charges $750 per crown--solid porcelain. Last time I had one done, she only had to spend 30 seconds making adjustments--the scanner was so precise.

Where it gets expensive is an implant. They're charging $2200 to do the implant, $850 for the abutment and then your own dentist does a $850 crown.

I had an implant done in a small Illinois town for $1,000. The procedure once I was numbed up was only about 6 minutes and it was easier than getting a cavity filled. Our local oral surgeons are ripping patients' heads off @ $2200 for simple implants.
