Camp gulf was a great spot. I would recommend to try to get a spot just 1 row back from the beach front. The beach front spots are tight plus no sewer. You can't leave chairs and tents on the beach overnight so you have just as much right to the beach as the beach front spots. You also will save some money 1 row back as well as more flexibility with the reservation as far as deposits. I live 1700 miles from camp gulf and can not wait to make the drive back. If you go beach front the do have a portable tank flush for 10.00 per day.
We stay at Henderson SP every year in late Aug or early Sept. It's the best.
Super clean and quiet with it's own beach access that never gets crowded.
But it's probably booked solid for the summer.
We've stayed at Camp Gulf also (once).
I'm sure it appeals to some, but we thought it was crowded & busy with too much of a party atmosphere for our taste.
Many travelers from the west don't go as far as Destin.
They're perfectly satisfied with Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama. It's the same incredible Gulf beaches as Ft. Walton to Panama City--as good a beach as there is in the World.
Gulf State Park (Gulf Shores) has a huge campground, and it's really nice. My cousin often visits there in his Tiffin motor home.
I was in Seaside, FL a few weeks ago. I was appalled at the prices of restaurants and bars. We were eating $35 meals and drinking $58 bottles of wine. My friend said that the whole Destin area has "resort pricing."
Destin West RV is very nice. Kids will have access to all the pools and game rooms at the Ramada across the street. (Owned by the same people). Destin West has a nice pool as well and an Arcade next door. Destin West is really in Fort Walton Beach. Beautiful beach across the street. We go there several times a year.
