Did you regret going from cozy small to bigger?

As a teenager in the 1960s, the family had a 17' tt, three kids 11,15,18, and a chihuahua. It had a lot of room and comfortable compared to our earlier tent trailer. Dad traded for a 22'tt and we had LOTS of room. And slides weren't invented yet.

Fast forward 56 years, last year we went from a 35' Class A , 2 slides, to a 38' 2 slides. Wife, myself, and two labs, still comfortable.

Get what you want with the floor plan you like.

Every time we went bigger we were happier. Just get something you are comfortable with.

They don’t say size matters for no reason. Whatever you have bigger is better. It depends on you if the increased size and related issues are enough to make you stay with what you have. Sometimes simple is better.

You're calling it cozy, however when you can't sleep you're describing cramped and probably close to miserable.

Maybe you need to do more looking to finding a more appropriate match, but bigger would help.

Our first MH was 38' now 43' no regrets. I doubt we will go bigger since this is all that fits in our garage.

I would be sure that loaded it doesn't overload vehicle ratings. Think about driving on flat or in a lot of hilly country. Also with teenage boys how much longer are they really camping or going to college, friends, military. I would recommend what you and wife want size and finances with an empty nest.

We went from a 35’ TT to a 42’ DP, then down to a 25’ Sprinter View (briefly…too small according to the DW) then back up to a 38’ gasser. I want to get a second rig, the Outback that you reference is my preference if we go TT, so that we can go to size limited state and national parks, but keep the big gasser (or trade back up to a DP) for longer cross country/long stay type of trips. I REALLY like that little Outback with the King slide and two bunks. Depending on who is snoring (me or the dog), one of us will take the bunk while the other is cozy with DW on the King slide out.

Edit to add: we are also looking at a gas class C as a second rig option: a 29’11” Entegra Esteem 27U, (or the Odyssey version if that’s all we can find). With this rig, we think we can travel without a towed…

Started in a tent with 2 preschoolers, Wife and a Golden Retriever in a VW Rabbit. Then bought a summer place till the kids were grown. Then a 24' tt that we used into the 2nd year of retirement. Moved to a 30' fiver and a F350 cc longbox SWD. Way more space than we need, except my Wife is a quilter and uses most of the room. I still have a recliner and tv, a place to sleep/nap and a bathroom. Biggest regret is the height of the fiver at over 13' it restricts many places we would enjoy going to. With solar and large battery bank it would be nice to get back into the forest in a nice clearing. So we have to scout any place that will likely have lots of trees.

We started RV'ing in a 13' trailer and worked up to a 22'. We go to some places where anything towed over 25' is almost impossible, so the last two RV's have been truck campers with an enclosed trailer in tow. We are now about 50' overall but articulate in the center to give us that sharper turning radius than longer units.

I think you're on the right track. A 24' seems like it would be a better all around choice for you and your family. You need to be comfortable in whatever you are going to choose.

We have moved up several times and have never regretted it.
