Everyone touts diesel being much better than gas trucks, but the bottom line is diesel cost just as much as gas and more in many instances. Your savings went out the window with diesel when you can't start it at 10 below zero. I could go on how your really not saving money in the long run with diesel.

I believe it will be very seldom that we will see diesel prices lower than gas in the future. The use of gas is declining because of more efficient cars. Diesel on the other hand fuels all of the OTR trucks that deliver our goods. While they are becoming more efficient it is still not enough to significantly reduce the amount of fuel. Diesel will be the main steady income for oil companies as our goods must continue to move.

Have had diesels since 2004 and have been in 20-30 below overnights--no problems with starting. Newer diesels ain't your granddaddys diesel....but sure wish they would last as long.

The problem with diesel at cold temps is when it gets below 17 degrees F, it'll begin to gel. Not an issue if you're on the move but if the temp stays below 17 for an extended period of time and precautions (additives) are not taken, that diesel will have a hard time being pumped. I haven't experienced it with my RV, but have certainly experienced it with an outside oil tank in the dead of winter.

The tax (state and federal) on a gallon of gas runs about 50 cents. It's usually a little higher for diesel.

Just completed a 2700 mile trip from home to AZ. Diesel fuel was $2.08 to $2.57. Sure don't want to see those plus $3 prices again.

I think this is the reason. We have gone from about $2.39 to $2.69 here in Vermont.

As far as diesel prices go,,, around here a truck stop will charge 50-75 cents per gallon more than small stores... Rip off in my book.... That cost goes onto our shelves.... For my pickup,, I'm paying $2.09 - $2.17 right now for diesel in NW AR....

All these fools are looking at the news reports about OPEC and others in an agreement to limit production. Couple this with the heating season excuse for further price raises, and they're trying to up the price hoping others will go with them. Of course none of these things are going to happen until after January 1st or later but the gougers are still trying. Prices are always sticky down, and slippery up.

Yep, after Jan 1 2017 when Pa adds their new 8 cent hike that will take this state's gas tax to a nationwide record high of $.76 per gallon. I don't know what they're spending all that money on because it certainly isn't the highways!

I don't drive a big D but I do buy a lot of Gasoline...

I recall when the national average for a gallon of Gas was 4.17
Today Well let me check Right now it is about 2.25 and it got down back in Feb to 1.69 (Source Gas buddy dot com)

What changed 8 years ago that cut the price in half

What is about to change again?
