This will tell you and Forbes is reasonably reputable.

The short answer is not until summer.

The US has been shutting down refineries that are not as profitable. Reduced inventories means higher prices.
We actually did buy some fuel from Russia so the boycott has made some difference however it could be made to apply to both gas and diesel, not just diesel.


The fact is that diesel runs everything from trucks, trains and farm tractors so expect to see massive increases in the price of food and everything else.

I'm going to re-learn to make baked beans and keep an eye out for roadkill and boondock a lot.

There is (or ought to be) a difference between being aware that a product may be less available and thus increased in price, and the OMG panic that people won't be able to heat their homes or drive their diesel pickup to the grocery store. But the media thrives on controversy so every slight ripple in the economy gets hyped like the end of the world, and then the apocalypse brigade and the conspiracy theorists ramp up their FB & Twitter noise.

Well I have a 2000 gallon empty fuel oil tank in my back yard and 2 empty 500 gallon diesel tanks as well. If I and every other small and large business owners who have this kind of thing start to panic, that’s how it starts, you do not want to see how it ends. Got to run my fuel oil guy is on the phone.

In New Brunswick Canada diesel fuel hit 3.30 CDN a liter. That is $2.44 US a liter which equates to 9.22 US a gallon or 12.47 cdn to go 8 miles. A 400 mile trip is now $600. Lots of RV's will not be leaving the yard.

Not sure what I am going to do but I am not sure that MH is in my future. Perhaps a travel trailer. Regardless at those fuel prices MHs are not going to be rolling or selling.

FWIW--we have oil wells and they have not increased pumping. They have been all shut down on "stand-by" for several years. They tell us that they know the oil is there, but are saving it for "a rainy day" and are not going to pump it up until they need it.



That said, still not pumping much, so I guess they don't think they "need it".

Clicks are the currency of the modern world. The more you tickle the reader's emotions, the more likely it will be they'll click.

While there is often some truth to many stories, slathering on a thick sticky coating of superlatives has become the norm. Nothing fuels clicks more than fear and anger.

We've been in our winter SoCal spot for almost a month and prices have stayed pretty much the same ($5.97 gal).

I'm not panicking:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lori Weaver Hawkins with AAA says the country currently has about a 25-day supply of diesel. But that metric has been misinterpreted by some.
“We may have a 25-day supply of diesel, but that doesn’t mean in 25 days we’re going to run out of diesel,” said Weaver Hawkins.
Weaver Hawkins says that would only be the case if diesel stopped being produced. But reports have prompted some panic among consumers, leading them to buy in large quantities.
“That does cause problems,” Weaver Hawkins said. “It will cause disruption.”
She says diesel producers are trying to play catch-up to reach a normal supply of between 35 and 40 days, after so many refineries shut down during the pandemic.
In line with the law of supply and demand, that does have an effect on the consumer.
“Right now, we’re at about $5.33 for a national average, here in Kentucky we’re at $5.26,″ said Weaver Hawkins.
Drivers running on diesel are feeling the pain at the pump as a result of the shortage. She points out that diesel price is especially important because it comes at a greater cost to the population than just the fill-up.
“Diesel fuel actually impacts more of your life than the gasoline price,” Weaver Hawkins said. “That’s something to keep an eye because that impacts the goods we have delivered to retailers.”
So Weaver Hawkins warns against any panic buying because the problem will only worsen if this practice becomes widespread.
“There’s not a need,” said Weaver Hawkins. “We’re not running out in 25 days. Please don’t panic buy because that will upset the recovery as far as the supply and demand goes.”
