Direct TV Traveler very inflexible

I have a new MH that has a Direct TV dish on the roof. I have never had sat tv before so I called them to see if I installed a Direct TV at home could I use the same receiver in the MH? No. You have to have two accounts at 60.00 a month for the basic and 2 receivers.

Does anyone know if there is any other plan out there for RV's? She said you can suspend for up to 6 months.

ATT/Direct TV uses a call center in the Philippines.

Your biggest mistake was asking the question. Just have the system installed at home probably with a Genie. Then go to an authorized vendor and buy another receiver and activate it. Install second receiver in the RV. EVen if you leave it on all year it's only ~$8/mo.

One account

I have direct tv at my home... largest package with 4 genies... I pay about $51 per month.... I have the same dish on my RV. When I travel I bring my receiver and a genie with me ... when I get to my stay location and want local channels I call and instantly I get local... no issues. You can get locals within about a 250 mile radius without changing.

We have a Genie in the house with one TV. We've had DirecTV in the MH(s) for about ten years. Both are on the same account. When DirecTV refers to the receivers, one is called Family Room and one is called motor home.

DirecTV will NOT allow two Genies on one account. You can have a Genie and multiple Clients (additional boxes) in the house, but not two Genies. So we ordered a DVR receiver, which you pay for and activate and placed that in the motor home. The only downside, the DVR will only record two items at a time. The DVR runs an additional $10.00 per month.

With all due respect, I seriously doubt that you can have the largest DirecTV programming package with 4 receivers and are still only paying $51/mo.

Furthermore, since DirecTV policy is to permit only one Genie per account, my assumption is that you have a single Genie with 3 other mini-Genie client devices.

But even with that there's no way it can all be bundled for $51/mo unless someone at Customer Service gave you one heck of a discount!

I also question being able to change locals, especially the instantly part.
We've had Dish in the RV for over a year and have been very happy and love the ability to change local channels using the app. We recently changed the home account to Dish and wanted to add the RV recievers, but what I'm heading is that can only be done with an "outdoor" account.

we have one direct tv account with a genie, two mini genies, and the video bridge. the rv has a travel'r antenna on it. we move the equipment back and forth between the trailer and the house whenever we leave for a trip or return. we do not call direct tv at all! it works just fine.

when i first started doing this i had to take the equipment and all the power supplies and remotes and some coax. that got to be a pain. i went to ebay and bought equivalent power supplies, power inserter, and remotes and connected them all up at the trailer. now all i have to do is to unhook the actual equipment boxes and move them back and forth. no messing with pulling power or coax cables. much, much easier!

for what it is worth we have never called direct tv to try to change the service address to get local stations while on our trips.

There is no need for two of anything. For years we simply took the parts needed from home to the RV. In our case since we had an HR44- Genie, I took the main box, the video bridge and one mini Genie. Setup took maybe 10 minutes once I had my fiver wired correctly.
Which receiver you get depends on what Winegard dish you have. So you need to A determine what version of dish it is and B does it actually work. Travlers can be finiky at best. The shightest interference toward the southern sky where you park and you will not get reception. The Travlers in the past either work and people are happy or they fail often and people, like me, hate them.
BTW Direct is definitely NOT RV friendly. For around 350 dollars it can be converted to Dish network which is more RV friendly.

I’d like to provide exact details. I have a genie gen 3 dvr hr54-700 receiver plus 3 mini genie c51-700 and a sim3 dish. I have the ultimate (all incl) package and pay $53.69 /month. Yes this is a one year promotion, but I have called every year for the past 8 years and have always gotten a promotion price.
When we hit the road I bring my genie dvr and a mini with and can view all my channels. To get locals I just call and give them my location and within a few minutes I refresh and get local channels.

We use Dish. You can access your receiver at home with the Dish Anywhere App if you have decent Wifi. We don't carry any other equipment with us and have been doing it for three years. If you can connect to cellular you can watch TV.

We use Dish Network, with the Hopper and a Wally at home and a Joey in the trailer. It cost 10.00 a month more when we use the Joey. Same account and we can activate it with the MyDISH app when on the road. At home we have a local channel package, when we are out we get the locals for the area we’re in.

I don't know about Direct Tv but we have Dish in the house and barn and the Traveler 1000 on the mh. All we do is take one of our receivers from one of these locations hook up 2 cables and power cord and that's it, no extra cost.
