Disappointed w/Thetford Toilet

I purchased & had the Thetford Aqua-Magic Style I I toilet installed in our rig in Oct of 2012. This morning the flush mechanism broke/exploded/fell apart as evidenced in picture. Thetford states it has a 1 year warranty, my problem. I'd recommend avoiding purchase of this product.

Don't get me started on Thetford toilets. You can do a search to see what I think about Thetford toilets on this forum.

I would highly recommend the Dometic Sealand Concerto Toilet which you can easily purchase from Camping World or other places depending on the sale price.

There are also other Sealand toilets which are also very good but the Concerto is all porcelain and electric, about as close to a normal household toilet you will get for an RV.

The other Sealand toilets are either all porcelain or part porcelain and part plastic with foot pedals for flushing.

HERE is one that is part porcelain and part plastic I believe.

HERE is one that is all porcelain I believe.

X2 on the Sealand, great products. Had them on my boats for years and then the MH's....never a problem. Good heads up on a weak product.

Exclamation A piece of garbage

As shown in the picture I too had the exact same problem. I did not contact Thetford they contacted me. I wrote a review on Camping Worlds (CW) web site on the toilet (which they never posted) They are presently heavily promoting this same toilet which is the reason I wrote the review. CW intercepted my review and passed it on to Thetford. Within a day Thetford emailed me wanting to investigate the problem. After a couple of days of emails back and forth they offered the same response. "It was out of the warranty period being more than a year old so there was nothing they would do" The problem with the toilet is the spring stop. One end returns the arm to its ready position, the other end pushes against a small (inadequate) plastic pin. This pin is the problem. The strength of the spring shears off the pin. For this reason I recommend to my fellow RVers DO NOT BUY THIS TOILET.

I have a Thetford in my 82 PA I had to replace the flush valve 2 years ago and haven't had any problems since. I guess I have been lucky...

I bought one of the Thetford Magic flush V toilets. I haven't installed it yet. I can se how cheap it is made. I had thought about buying the parts kit for it to keep on hand, now i know I want to.
I bought the hand flush model because i know how easy it it for me to over power something with my foot. (I have Heavy Frame of my own)

one note as well. the model I bought I got it on Ebay at $119 shipped. it was $185 at my local RV Dealer.

The same fine company that manufactures our "Notcold" refrig. Seems they continue to supply us with RV junk.

I will not have ANYTHING made by Thetford/Norcold in my coach EVER!

The first thing to go was the POS toilet. After replacing the motor/seal combo three times in 6 years plus having to listen to the thrashing machine toilet work when it did run was just too much for me to handle.

Replaced it with a Sealand Magnum Opus and I've had over 4 years of quiet reliable service from the Sealand toilet.

The NotSoCold was thrown out in April 2012 and replaced with a Samsung RF197 residential fridge. The very BEST thing anyone can do for their coach and quality of RVing especially if they use it as their home Full-Time like I do.
