It is not addressed in a a dozen or so states and illegal in lie 30 states. In the rest it is under consideration or in one has favorable laws but not specifically legal.

So for most outside of California... I can understand how non lane splitting drivers don't look favorable upon people that could be doing something on the road that isn't expected.

As I have posted before...being predictable keeps everyone the safest.

Yes, I sure agree about predictability. Anyway, I thought we were talking about lane splitting in California, where is it legal and common. At least I was.

It is legal and a common practice in CA, but out of state drivers are often surprised and even startled by it what they see an unpredictable event.

Exactly. Legal and common doesn't necessarily make certain actions safe.

The USCG prides itself in its ability to bring crews from all over the country together in times of crisis and work safely together..... how?.... standardized equipment and techniques = predictability = relatively (nothing is perfect) safe operations.

Things might be better all over if traffic laws were more universal...

There is no doubt whatsoever about that. Traffic laws and customs. Even internationally, but it would be tough for those folks used to driving on the wrong side of the road.
