Now I know why most people die from "unloaded" guns. This post takes away the fun of RVing.

Davepoll, Dont understand how this post has anything to do with your enjoyment of RVing. Also your first paragraph makes no sense at all. Suggest you chill out some and enjoy life.

You people in this thread scare me more than any potential criminals I might run into on the road. 911 and the police are the protection I would use.

This thread has become a measure of testosterone more than anything else. Read the second amendment, and the bible we are all responsible for our own safety and self defense is a God given right. Don't post how big your gun is it might be used against you later. Me, I will just use my kung fu jit su kick flip.

you betchum, red ryder!
I grew up with 'em. In Georgia at that time (1940's) every household had one, and they were quiet neighborhoods. As most of those saying yes indicated, your firearm is a last resort, but sometime might be the first desperately needed response. How very sad if it is, and you're not prepared. Like the song says,"ain't no time for lengthy speeches".
To have to fire on a human being is something any sane person prays to avoid. But with the world the way it is today, it's not always gona be a sane situation.
BUT if you carry, BE trained and practiced! If you're not, a gun is your worst enemy. And don't draw until you intend to fire.

So, let me make sure I understand your point, an intruder breaks into your RV in the middle of the night and graciously allows time for you to call 911 and waits patiently for the police?
If you are lucky enough to be able to reach 911, with the response times I've experienced, especially in remote campgrounds, they will not be there to protect you, but they will take a report, notify next-of-kin and open a case.
Good luck with that.
PS: Your are aware that the Supreme Court has ruled that Police do not have a constitutional duty to protect you right?
Here is an enlightening article:

I have heard stories from both of them dealing with some very violent people.
I am a black belt in kempo. I grew up next to a city, went to high school in the city. My work as an electrician put me in some of the worst neighborhoods in several different cities. I have worked in drug infested areas all the way to prisons. The factories with the acid baths were worse to work in than the any of the neighborhoods in any of the cities. I use to go to biker bars with some of my old friends. I have never once felt that I was in a situation that I would have to resort to deadly force to defend myself. Very few have ever even bothered me.
In 30 years of travel with both motels and camping I have never felt afraid for my life or even close. I think you would have more trouble from the cookie monster on sesame street than with people in campgrounds lol There have been shady characters in some of the truck stops but nobody has ever bothered me.
IMO--- I blame alot of fear in the general populace on the news and their tendency to propagate hysteria. I fear aggressive drivers in traffic more than I do people.
Then I have several dogs with me at all times and I wouldn't want to be an intruder. One time a guy tried to come over the fence at my shore place and one of the dogs came through that back screen door like a bullet. He was a lucky man as he was only on the top of the fence and was able to leave fast.

what about the criminals that sometimes use campgrounds, like the man that recently killed two children or the man that ended up in the quincy,fl. campground , this is just two recent events. times are different now and innocent people are being targeted especially for stealing and home invasions.

Hmmm...no officer I know would ever tell anyone things like this. It is encouraging criminal activity. I do agree with your CCW instructor though...the idiot that spread this advice would surely not be dumb enough to admit it in court.

NO, I didn't carry one when I drove a semi, and never felt threaten then, and I also strongly do not believe in carring a hand gun in the RV, however a can of hair spray, pepper spray, just about anything with a strong spray will work, and you are able to leave a can out near the door, next to the bed, and not to worry about it.
Spraying into the eyes will tempory blind them, the butt of the can also works nice too, and as it sits out in the open, it don't look like a weapon,, unlike a gun.
as they try to break in you have time to call 911, and get ready to greet your intruder .
also your step well, why not lay a sheet of plywood on the last step, it will not only slow a intruder but will provide an extra footage for floor space,,
carry insurance for your belongings & lock your doors.
I see both sides of this post, but i will not carry a gun.

True story: I worked at a condo conversion project in Phoenix and one day it was my job to let prospects into the building. The entire front of the building was glass and since there were no residents, we kept the door locked and admitted folks as they came up from the parking lot. A man walked onto our property and I could tell from his appearance that he wasn't there to see our condos. I talked to him through the locked glass door. He said he wanted in and after I explained to him that we were only open to show the model condos to guests he became agitated and said he'd let himself in. He took out a key and inserted it into the lock. It didn't turn the cylinder. So he took out a small file and started to file the key, reinserting it and trying again, then repeating this process again and again. I went back to the desk phone and called the police. Now...the Metro police department rear entrance was visible one block away. I could watch police cars come and go. The dispatcher asked me what I wanted. I told them where I was and that a man was trying to break into our building. They asked a couple more questions and said they'd send a car. He worked on the door for 15 more minutes then wandered off and walked up the street. 30 minutes later the police arrived. I bought a gun the next day.

Guess the police/911 really helped that retired couple from Oklahoma that was abducted in a New Mexico rest area, their RV burned, and them killed. I know some will say that's an isolated incident and could even happen at home, but would you want to take that chance. Weapon or no weapon, whatever gives you that warm and cozy feeling but I'll never be left standing with my hands in my pockets after an incident several years ago at an isolated end-of-season CORP of Engineers lake camp ground, which I should have know better than to be there in the first place but it was a such beautiful setting. Live and learn.
Hope everyone just continues to take great pleasure in using their RVs.
