They are basically an insurance policy , all are just a phone number , you call and they look up their ' recommended ' tow company or whatever you service need , they call them , and 'Bob's your Uncle'. BUT check price vs miles towed as that is where the difference mainly lies. Battery / locked doors / flat tires , etc. are basically the same. I use Good Sam. Used once for flat tire in the middle of nowhere S. Dakota , worked great. Just a good feeling knowing someone has your back.
We have had Good Sam for the past five years. Fortunately, we only needed it the one time, but they were very prompt in responding. I would be very hesitant to travel without a roadside assistant plan of some type.
