Ours were extremely baroque in style, with overlapping layers of vari-colored fabric. When I had them down to remove the blinds for cleaning, I also removed a couple layers of trim from the cornices to give them a more modern look.

Cornices can serve a few purposes. First, they hide the shade attachment at the top. Second, they keep the light out of the coach, when desired, by surrounding the edges of the shade/blinds. Third they provide a nice decorative look to the RV.

I changed out all of the OEM day/night blinds in my 2005 Monaco Diplomat to MCD shades. The cornices in the Diplomat were 3/4 material with some wood trim showing. I removed and recovered the material with something more modern, which spruced up the look.

Personally, I think that there are some things you should never remove in an RV. If yours came with cornices, they were there for a purpose and added to the styling of the RV. Updating the material is fine, but removing them, makes it look cheap and often "homey", something that the next owner will not appreciate. Even if you don't intend to sell the coach, it's not a good look.

I was pondering the idea of recovering them. can you share, did you do it yourself, and what was the approximate cost per window. I have a MONACO too, and my cornices have curves to them (horizontal part above window) so a DIY may be challenging? I'd love to get your advice, and tips
