We started full timing with 2 cats then went to no cats for a couple of months. We couldn't stand the quite so we got a rescue cat and she sure adds life to the RV. I have a childs fishing pole with a toy mouse on the end and I go cat fishing for entertainment (usually catch a cat with every cast)

the answer to no pets or smoke and selling is they are not as happy as people with pets. the pet people don't sell coaches, eh??

7 cats - all feral rescues going back almost 8 years now. None have any interest in riding in vehicles let alone traveling. Some have health issues and a couple have exceeded their 9 lives but still hanging in there. Others we've been able to socialize enough that they are well-behaved indoors, including curling up in your lap and sleeping on the bed at night. We have 3 outdoor catteries so they can still enjoy being outside without losing them to the coyotes that pass through from time to time. When we are traveling our oldest daughter checks in on them daily.

We wouldn't leave home without them. (Or poop bags, and dispose of appropriately, part of responsible ownership). Rescues, Lab mix and Great Pyrenees mix, like brothers. Very well trained.

It has become clear that the pictures of our pets are to be posted here... LOL

This is 'Grace' who is saying, "If you try to put that collar on me again, I am clawing your eyes out."

Grace_02.10.14 by Tommie Lauer, on Flickr

And, that is why she stays home....

BTW, I have had up to seven cats at once, and we also have in the house a couple of less feline animals....

[QUOTE=Msmoto;4310667]A few years ago I had a Tiffin Allegro Bus, was certain I could carry my cat along. But the cat had never traveled during her first six years.....

Placed her in a large cage, water, food, kitty liter, strapped into one of the hide-a-beds in the bus. Let her stay for about an hour, then checked on her.

Results: Kitty liter, food, and water all combined, flung all over the bus. Not a happy cat. Then, so I could walk her outside the bus, attempted to put a collar on her which went under chin and behind front legs... did not want her running off thousands of miles from home. There was no way she was going to allow me to place a collar on her as she had never had one, was not going to have one, and after significant blood loss on my part, I agreed.

So, my answer is no, I do not travel with pets, or at least my pets.

I was interested in your reply as I'll be taking two cats along for cross-country trips--and they are both house cats that are also allowed to go outside. Not used to traveling. Probably not an option to leave them behind, and I don't really want to anyway--so I'll have to figure out a way to get them used to the idea of life on the road. I'll be traveling in a motorhome, so at least we can all share the same space and they may be reassured by that. Time will tell.

I just did an informal investigation of the campground we are in. It is a busy vacation-type place, a state park with a lake. Lots of kids, but out of 40 or so sites I regularly walk by, only 5 or so have dogs. I can’t tell about the cats. I think that many posters here are retired and take long trips or are full timers. Hard to board animals for more than a week or two, so we all take them with us. Families who only go for a few weekends and one or two longer trips a year leave their pets at home more often.

As cats not raised in an RV may tend to head for home if allowed out of an RV, this being essentially a terminal event, I was instructed to put a secure collar on in order to be able to let them out on a leash. It was the attempt to place the collar on which convinced me that Grace would not stand for this.

All my cats (maybe 15 - 20 over the years) have been in/out cats, generally with no collars. They have all been fully fixed, appropriate shots given, but pretty much do what they want to do, making certain I know when feeding time is.....

We travel with three dogs. Two Labs and a Jack Russell. We leave the cats at home while our neighbors son cat sits. My DW is the CRAZY CAT LADY! Have traveled with cats but afraid of losing them.

Yup! I'd never leave them behind. Right now it's short trips as dh still works full time and his work doesn't allow for travel. Doesn't matter though, I'd never board them or leave them at home.
