Except that's not what the law says. If your RV is air conditioned or heated or has adequate ventilation to keep your pet safe it is not illegal.

If your RV or vehicle is not a safe place for your pet then yes, it is nice for the state to step in and take care of a neglected animal.

A person shall not leave or confine an animal in any unattended motor vehicle under conditions that endanger the health or well-being of an animal due to heat, cold, lack of adequate ventilation, or lack of food or water, or other circumstances that could reasonably be expected to cause suffering, disability, or death to the animal.

Thank you for posting that clarification. I believe that those (including DH and myself) that purchase RV’s to take our fur babies with us, will make the effort to keep them safe. Our Minpin rescue will always be with us or in comfort in the RV.

We travel pulling a fiver with a standard poodle, domestic short hair cat, and two macaws. The birds ride in the cab on a specially made perch. The dog rides there too. The cat prefers to stay in the fiver.

Mostly we drive about five to seven hours and break when we need fuel. Everybody is used to the drive; the dog sleeps, the birds watch out the windows, and we assume the cat hides.

The reason I bought the RV is so my lab can travel with me. If Daisy can't go, I don't go! She will be 11 this month, so needs assistance with the steps in the RV, but she loves the new smells on all of our adventures. She is a rescue, and I have had her for 5 years.

They stay in when we are in RV parks (less than 10% of the time). They are on leashes in State and Federal campgrounds where there are leash rules.

Fifth wheel has a 4' tall sisal rope scratching post and some corrugated scratch box things. And lots of interesting places to hide (including a cavity behind a false wall behind the TV .. via a hole left by the removed Genesis radio. I finally stuffed an old pillow in there for them.

Cats have a thermal-neutral zone up around 90F so can withstand considerable heat. But, they do start panting up around 100F and since panting is their only way of getting rid of excess heat and it's not very effective, I've made a door into the basement where it's always 10-15F cooler. Above about 95F they can be found down there, usually in their carriers which we store down there.

Before RV, we would leave them home with daily visits from our kids but nonetheless they occasionally had stressed-caused bladder crystals. No longer.

I know that feeling. That's actually one of the most important reasons we purchased the motor home. we would put our two doggies in a boarding facility but when we came back in a month or so, they were so stressed out and filtyh that we decided neveer to do any boarding from now on. We travel with Scamper a 12 year old miniature Poodle and Tobie a 5 year old Shih Tzu. We wouldn't go without them. It's amazing how many RVers travel with pets. It would be interesting what kind o statistics support this conclusion? If I could figure how to send a picture along I would.

We started for the same reason, one of our boys was diabetic and we needed to care for him so we got the fifth wheel. Just looked at the Rules for Tanglewood Campground in NC, and I am wondering if this is something I should be concerned about other campgrounds? They have a rule that you cannot put up any temporary fencing for your dogs when camping. That is the first I have heard of any rules against that. I have 4 Pomeranians so they are not jumping out of the fencing that I put up, being small in size. But does anyone know the logic on this, or if this is a trend? That was my master plan for taking the dogs. When we aren't in the RV, I want to walk them on leashes of course, or stroll them in a dog jogger stroller I have, or have them behind some portable fencing I set up around the RV. I certainly wouldn't leave them unattended that way. I don't know if that is their fear...that the owners will leave the RV and their dogs be behind the fencing outside, which could pose a problem I think. I would hate to have to have them leashed and tied down outside the whole time. It doesn't keep them safe from other dogs that way if another dog can jump on them. Though everyone should obey the rules and not let their pet run around, I never take that chance. So far, most campgrounds have been very gracious about pets, and never said a word about fencing being an issue.

We’ve seen quite a bit of that actually. The parks say their reasoning is to protect their grass. (Same as no patio rugs on the grass but give you no room anywhere else).

Now, there is an excellent campground just for dogs in Rutherfordton, NC. Owners are welcome but it’s designed for dogs. And no two legged people under 18.

We travel with Spooky, our young Forest cat. She doesn't care for the movement and hangs out in her hidey spot but loves to camp. She's leash trained and loves walks anywhere.
