Do you use a fan for your frig?

I am considering putting an aux. fan on the back of my frig to blow air over the condenser coils to improve efficancy of my frig. Is it worth it? If so what fan do you recommend? I have already eliminated the vent cover with the solar panel as I havn't heard many good things about the panel. Thanks Bob

I don't have a fan as you describe. I do have one of the small battery power fans inside to circulate the cold air through out the unit.

Yes, a fan/s will certainly help the efficiency of an absorption refrigerator. I would recommend 12volt computer muffin fans with ball bearings. They are quiet, low power use, long life. Consider hooking up to a temperature activated switch so they don't run constantly. Direct airflow over coils. Use the search window at the top of this page for lots of good info on this idea.

I actually put 2 high (110 cfm)air flow pancake fans (120 volt)behind the fridge. It helps mine some especially in the very hot weather. Keeps the air flowing. If you do a search on Amazon you should be able to find them. I also put 2 small fans on the fins inside the fridge. Circulates air inside the fridge and keeps the ice off the fins at the same time. You can find them on E-Bay.

I got mine from Radio Shack, they have 12v and 120v 3" and 4"
muffin fans that are used in computers. On my Norcold, which is in
the slide and does not get good airflow out for the heat, I put in
one 4" 120v at the bottom blowing up, an two 3" 12v at the top
blowing the heat out thru the grill. HUGE improvement, even when
it was 100+ outside, we at 36-38 in the fridge and 10 in the freezer.

On the Norcold 13 cu.fy (4 door), I added two, 12 volt, 4" fans outside and a 3" fan inside. The two outside fans are wired in series so they run on 6 volts and 1/2 speed. I also moved the thermistor from the 2nd fin on the right to the 5 fin from the right.

I have a small 110 AC powered fan from Lowes. It goes into a plug on the rear of the refer. Also, I got a remote on/off switch so I can contol it from inside the coach.

I have two fans behind my fridge blowing air upward toward the vent. I installed them when I replaced the cooling unit with the Amish-built unit. I understand that they are VERY important for proper operation of the fridge.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Hi Jayco23FB,
For the outside refer chimney, I have 2 12 VDC fans blowing air up the chimney. I had the Camco vent cover fans but in 3 years I had 3 of these and they all failed. Great idea, lousy quality.

Inside the refer I have 4 computer fans under the cooling fins. The fans are at Titan TTC-SC07TZ(RB) Z-AXIS VGA Cooler - Newegg.com They work perfectly and keep the fins from collecting condensation for months. I took the fans off the card and mounted them to the rear of the refer shelf. They are super quiet. For me, I feel they help keep the refer consistently cold in hot weather. My only reason for defrosting the refer is the freezer part of the unit.

I have an Amish unit in the slide on my coach with side venting that makes proper cooling difficult. At the top vent, I had one fan installed when the Amish unit was installed - they also installed a baffle behind the coils to further focus the path of the cooling air. The single fan was a relatively low volume muffin fan controlled by a thermal switch. I recently replaced it and added two additional manually switched fans at the top vent. I used 12v muffin type fans with three blades and a 160cfm rating each. I also added a wireless thermometer behind the fans to monitor the actual temperature - the fans have made a real difference.

2 muffins at the top of chimney to draw air. 2 little clip-ons inside the fridge to distribute, keeps my 27 y/o fridge cold and happy.
