Does Government Shutdown Impact Your Travel Plans

Anyway, to answer the OP, coming across I-40E a couple of days ago, the overhead sign read "Grand Canyon Closed". This was one of our stops along the way and our plans changed and lucky to have been there before. Then in Little Rock, AR, we planned on staying at Maumelle COE but the website said something about a "lapse in federal funding" and closed until further notice.

OK, so we stayed in another private park who was properly funded and since we like to visit Presidential Libraries, you guessed it, former President Clinton's Library is currently closed.

Nothing earth shattering to me, but closing these areas to the general public and worldly visitors who have spent some real bucks to get here just to make a point? Come on!

DW and I have been planning a fall trip for the last two years. We've looked at fall tree colors thru upper New York and across Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Now we've worked our way down to New Jersey with several days planned in NYC visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, both closed. Next on the agenda was two weeks in Washington DC. Right now it doesn't look like that will happen. The rest of the trip was working our way south to as far as Cape Kennedy. Most of that will be okay. This may have been our last chance to see DC so we're pretty bummed out over that loss.

We'll wait it out a few days here and see if anything changes.

We have reservations in a COE park in about three weeks. It is one we have never had any luck getting a reservation at. Only for three nights and there are plenty of other options nearby but we were looking forward to it. Oh well, life goes on and maybe the problem will be resolved by then.

As a moderator on a non-RV forum I can say that banning political conversation is a necessary evil. It always turns out badly. It is however not that hard to leave politics out of this thread. What parks are closed, what parks are not, who can stay, where can you go instead are all about RVing. Why they are closed really has no bearing on it, even if it upsets you to no end.

That may be true but I wonder how that will be enforced, (and who will be doing the enforcing)?
Will the Coast Guard be issuing citations to every pleasure boat and kayaker who wanders into Federal waters?

Our initial reservation at a COE site was canceled but we were saved by the GA State Parks! Just spent four spectacular nights at Fort Mountain S.P.
Thanks for some real southern hospitality to the good folks that went the extra mile to notify us of cancellations and extended our stay until this afternoon.

Article indicated the Park Rangers would enforce, mentioned they would primarily educate the public as to the closure. It also mentioned that during the last government shutdown, no citations were issued for violating the closure..

We are at Twin Creeks CG in Gatlinburg. The Park is closed as is the Little River Road. However, we can drive through the Park to Cherokee and drive enough back roads to see the colors. There has been some increase in the number of people at our CG since the CGs in the Park are closed.

Our plans to spend a week at a local COE had to be canceled. I'm glad we hadn't yet made reservations. We'll be going to a state park instead but will be paying twice as much for LESS. We probably will only stay a few days. This was to be our last week camping before winterizing the RVs.

We are leaving Alberta for Arizona in two weeks. We had planned to go directly to the imperial Dam area, near Yuma, but that is closed for the present. So...... We are still coming down but will have to "wing it" if the shut down is still on

In Texas we stay at the State Parks but in Arizona we tend to stay at private RV Parks. Just curious how we are going to find the crowds this winter.

I truly hope this doesn't impact anyone's travel plans but I can imagine it really does.

In fact, if it weren't for all the buzz on TV and the Internet, I wouldn't even know the government is shutdown.

Catalina State Park is $ 27 a night with 50 amp electric and water included. You call that expensive ?
