Dometic Blizzard NXT??

Has any installed or even seen the new Blizzard AC / HP units.

I'm getting ready to replace my Penguin II units and would like some information on installation or noise levels.

Within the last hour or so I was talking with a Dometic rep. Penguin II is still top of the line and lower in profile. Also the strong possibility to have to change out thermostat and add a solenoid/relay to communicate properly.
I have heard the Blizzard AC is the item of choice as well myself when I called Dometic. Availability was brought up as another issue and aligning duct systems could also be a problem depending on coach. I'm passing this along as hearsay only information. Please post what you end up doing and find out. I bought two Penguin IIs again.

Just replaced two Penguin II's last night. Took about two and 1/2 hours. The Penguin II's were pretty easy to install as long as you are careful with the wiring reconnects. The Penguin II were enhanced from the old ones and are mainly more aerodynamic. Nice to have ice cold air again. Wish you luck in your install!

Hi, Terry

It sounds like you decided to stay with the Penguin II series, so I'll wish you the best of luck. My interest is primarily in the new Blizzard NXT so I jumped over to tag below.

http://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/newm...nt-289928.html

My Penguin II's were replaced on May 20 th. and within the first week the new LG vertical compressor started making a "whining" noise which was attributed to a high amp draw beyond the factory limits. Keep an 'ear" on yours.

Dometic has agreed to send 2 new Blizzard NXT's as replacement and I should have them installed within the next week.

Thanks for your update.

Perhaps not relevant to the conversation, only as info. I have no whine in my new Penguin II Heat Pump Ducted High Capacity.

I installed a replacement Penguin II High Capacity for our failed 13,500 heat pump Penguin II last September.

After tweaking my front duct insulation separating the cooled air and return air, I measured the noise results for our new front unit vs our old bedroom 13,500 btu Penguin II (that still works after 21 years).

On the High Cool setting, both units had identical DB, 63 db average.

On the Low Cool setting the front unit was 1db louder than the rear unit at 62db.

As you can see, there was not much db difference between high and low cool on either unit. My rear unit has a medium setting, but the front does not.

The above readings are likely affected by the front mounted Generator running while powering the AC units.

With no AC running the generator produced a 51db reading in the salon vs 24db with nothing running.

The absolute numbers are probably suspect because I was using a calibrated phone app on my Galaxy S3.

Good information. When I had the new Penguins installed last month, I felt that the sound levels were the same as the old units. Loud!

So I'm waiting for delivery of the 15k btu Blizzards and hoping that they are quieter. Can't be any worse.

My two cents worth:
So far mine are quieter than the two older Penguin II. Again the two new ones are different with size of air cooling coils, strength of blowers, lower vibration and noise for now. Down the road I may have something different to report. Quieter is definitely a plus though!
