I have one company for my car insurance. A different company for my motorhome insurance. If my toad hit my motorhome I would expect for each company to pay for the repairs to the vehicle they insure and would expect them to charge the appropriate deductible for each vehicle.
When I had a travel trailer and insurance on it, it was basically an extension of the car insurance. Toads and trailers are not the same thing. Not in insurance and not in supplementary brake requirements. But that's a different discussion.

I get many solicitations from State Farm. I never even open them, and before I throw them in the trash I spit on them!

Call the tow bar company, they need to know it failed and caused damage.

I've had SF for 40 yrs. 6 cars 3 motor cycles 3 rvs 5 trucks. I have never had a problem or a rate hike after accidents. One while towing crv. In gas station. Misjudged rear swing on pulling out of pumps. Rv had fiberglass
Damage crv had some cosmetic on drivers side fender and lots of suspension damage. SF handled everything while on the road fetting crv fixed at a Firestone repair shop in RI. Rv fully covered just charged 500 deductible for both. Payed every penny with no problem. Gi figure. No rate change. Checked with agent who said hike was forgiven.

State Farm has taken care of me and my numerous claims for over 50 years. 10+ agents in 10+ states have treated me fairly, with no undue rate increases or coverage refusals. They wouldn’t still be in business if they claim-jumped, and the state regulators would be all over them.
The vehicle insurance system in this country works. Credit where due.

Just curious, I didn't see the make of the two bar that failed. What brand was it?
Just how did it break?
Thanks...

In case you've not figured it out, State Farm writes recreational vehicle insurance and also marine insurance as a consideration to their existing customers. They really don't care to underwrite RV and Boat insurance because claims such as yours result in very high payouts--vs. the premiums collected.
There's just no substitute for a insurance policy from a specialized RV insurance company that fills in all the holes on policies like State Farm. And it looks like there are plenty of holes in your policy they're hiding in.

The tow bar was a Roadmaster Sterling that was wayyyyy out of warranted.
The only good thing so far has been Roadmaster. Although out of warranty, when I sent them the pix, they are sending me a new bar.

Warranty or not, most companies want products that fail back so they can understand WHY.

Blue Ox replaced an 8 year old Aventa tow bar for me when it bent slightly in a "sudden stop" that resulted from an accident. They said it should not have bent simply because the coach stopped quickly (we rear-ended a stopped car).

And the name of a such a "specialized RV insurance company" would be???
All the major insurers now offer RV-specific policies that have substantially different coverage rules tan an automobile policy. Sort of a combination house + vehicle policy. I'm doubtful the State Farm "holes" are much different than any other insurer. Certainly not in this case, where the question is how the coverages of two separate vehicle policies are applied to one accident.

I might suggest that Roadmaster may be liable for this since it was their product that failed.

I had my axle break on my fifth wheel the tire passed me going down the road and hit the front of my truck, my insurance company Progressive paid for the damage on the trailer but not my truck. I don't remember their excuse just that they refused to cover the damage on the truck.
