Don't try to stop me!

Hello everyone,

So I've got a couple weeks off and decided to take a road trip. Leaving the Tacoma WA. area Sunday and heading down the coast (101) of Oregon into California. Visiting our daughter in the Napa area, then heading to Yosemite and finally home. We've taken trips in the past from tents to campers, this will be our first in a motor home with a toad. Three questions:

One: What are the must see places along the way?
Two: Great places to stay?
Three: Besides toilet paper what am I going to forget or wish I had brought?

Thanks
Eric
PS. Taking the dogs with us

Turtle Rock resort is nice. Just north of Brooking. Hot tubs on each site.

Happy Trails!!!

Also interested in places along the way

We are doing the same trip next month after a week in Vancouver. Washington, Oregon then California. Hot tub sounds great. Please what is the name of that campground. Places to see. Maine has nothing like what we have seen out here so far.

Winchester Bay RV resort in Reedsport is nice. Ancient Redwoods RV Park on the Ave of the Giants is a must. Also Napa Valley Expo is a great park. If you cycle, bring bikes. All these places have good riding. Biking the Ave of the Giants is just awesome.

Planning a trip like this takes .... well planning! Forums are a great place to start but researching the areas your visiting should extend beyond that. Tour books, atlas's, the internet are all good sources that i used in planning a 2 month trip from FL to MI to NY and back.
Rand McNally has some excellent road trip routes in various parts of the country that should give you a good start.
My suggestion is to find a place you want to visit, such as a natural wonder, museum, national park, etc and then research a campsite near that area. With some planning you should be able to find an interesting place to stay each night.

Not sure what you're interests are but Fort Stevens state park is nice with some cool history as one of the only places shelled by the Japanese during WWII. There is a nice maritime museum nearby in Astoria with some exhibits about the Columbia River bar and the "graveyard of the pacific." Canon Beach is a fun town to wander around in for half a day of shopping, very eclectic and artsy. All kinds of blow holes, rocky wave crashing areas, and viewpoints along the way. Agate beach in Oceanside has great rock hounding and a unique walk through tunnel to access another beach. Newport has an interesting waterfront complete with barking harbor seals. Some light houses also along your path. Obviously in California don't miss doing some hiking in the redwoods. Really the options are endless.

What brings you to Vancouver? I'm on my way home from Fresno right now. Need to stop in Junction City for some repairs on Monday though.
My late DW always packed as though there were no stores along the way, then we ate out anyway.

Visiting friends who live on Vancouver Island. Going to leave our camper in Washington. Wasn't sure about taking it on a ferry. Told to expect whale sightings on the way over.
