what really is making me mad is on the interstate when there is construction, two tractor trailers are blocking both lanes of the road miles before the merge. They actually slow when down and just poke along. I've called the state police and they said to call when it is happening. You'll have to go to court. It's like they are saying that there is nothing else that can be done. What do you think?

You probably won't like what I think, but I understand full well why the big rigs do it. One of my pet peeves is to be in the correct lane for the construction merge, for a freeway exit, etc. and to crawl along for minutes while others who know that their lane is ending or that they're in the wrong lane for the exit they're going to take want to scream by in the left lane and then cut in line at the last minute. Sorry, Charlie - no way!!! My time is just as valuable as yours, and you can danged well wait in line with the rest of us peons. Try cutting in line like that at Kroger's or Home Depot and let me know how it works out!!

Thats my gripe too. You're waiting your time in line to merge or exit and some idiot(s) just have to go to the front of the line like they own the road.

Well as one of the folks that have done just that to prevent the speed demon driven by the self indulging privileged few zipping by and cutting in line and moving every one further back in the line I see nothing wrong with it.

Many people merging onto the freeway, they are either too timid or too stupid to get up to speed to merge smoothly in. I always try to change lanes to allow someone to merge in but it's not always possible then it's a guessing game trying to figure out what they intend to do.

Some of my thoughts.
The left lane is not just for people that are not getting off soon.
If you look ahead and don't see anyone for a long way but there is something similar to a parade in your mirror you might not be driving fast enough.
If you are lost, confused or other black out mind sets don't stop in the middle of the road. Pull off somewhere and think, get out a map, get some O2 or whatever.
Merge
1.to cause to combine or coalesce; unite.
2.to combine, blend, or unite gradually so as to blur the individuality or individual identity of.
It' not that hard. Speed up, slow down, I don't care but the same speed next to me doesn't work and going down the ramp then stopping really doesn't work.

The constuckion crews set the merge distance not the truckers. I'm not talking about cutting in. Who gave the truckers the right to decide where the merge point is. 2-5 miles before is completely wrong!

The construction crews set the last possible moment to merge with the barrels blocking off the lane, right??

If the line is backed up 5 miles in the "good" lane and is just creeping along, how can someone run 80 MPH in the adjacent lane up to the forced merge point and get into the "good" lane WITHOUT cutting in line? When I've seen truckers running side-by-side as you describe, it's been when one of them is creeping along in a line of vehicles that's already backed up from the merge point and the other is blocking the Speedway Charlies from blasting around the line and forcing their way in at the last possible moment.

I agree with Stillwater though it seems to happen in certain areas. On the way from Ohio to Florida and back, the only place I had problems with someone too stupid to speed up or slow down to merge into traffic from the on ramp was in W. Virginia. After dropping out of cruise a couple of times to let them in, the next guy drove right up to where he had no choice but to slam on his brakes and get in behind me. This is of course only when pulling a 5er and I had traffic on my left so I couldn't get over.

Although I agree that it is annoying to have someone zip by me while waiting in the "correct" lane at a construction site, studies have shown that using both lanes until the last minute moves more traffic faster. The last time I was on I 81 in PA, the merge signs stated "Use Both Lanes" and expected vehicles to alternate at the merge point. Don't
really know if it works better that way...

Since I know that no one posting here EVER does any of the things we are complaining about, I just wish the rest of the drivers out there would drive by MY rules, it would keep my bloodpressure down.

Right of way
I just hate those REAL POLITE Drivers, that stop when they have the Right of way, to let somebody in. You got the Right of way in traffic, please just use that right of way. Don' get rearended???

When I am in my Motor Home I am out to enjoy myself. If they don't hit me, I am happy and don't get excited about anything.
