East Coast travel during Pandemic???
My wife and I simply need to get the heck out of the house. We want to hook up the travel trailer and head south from Massachusetts. Plan on leaving early March.
No real destination. North and South Carolina, Georgia and Northern Florida are on the list.
Any idea on the possibility of finding camping spots along the way. We don't want to be tied down to reservations.
What is the situation with rest stop overnights. Are Cracker Barrel and Walmart still allowing overnighting?
Anything else we should be concerned with?
Thanks in advance!

Check allstays for places and you are aware that March starts the colleges spring break? If you go any place that might be considered a spring break location like Myrtle Beach, NC beach areas, GA Tybee Island, all the NW FL gulf coast and Atlantic coastal areas, then you probably don't want to be there anyway. For Cracker Barrel, Walmart, Cabellas, etc. I suggest you make calls as different rules along the way.

Lots of open sites along the east coast.
The Canadians are still up in Canada.

My sister who in the past winged it all along their RV trips, has found reservations are required if they want to stay anyplace other than rest areas and Walmart. In the fall she tried getting some southern coastal places, GA, SC, but "no room in the inn". Canadians might be home but many US are traveling because of work and school online situations. But, at least in this area, the local schools realized the dismal failure of online primary education and are back in classes mostly. They would stay at state parks, COE, and such and rarely used commercial RV parks except when necessary. Me, because of my requirements with a bigger RV and my general travel style, often have to stay at commercial facilities and I make reservations. But I also can use the military facilities.

I have traveled from NJ to the FL Keys and back 4 times since the pandemic hit.
No problems at all staying at rest areas, Walmarts or Cracker Barrels as I boondock for the entire ride.
Like another post said, get the AllStays app for your phone as it tells you if a Walmart does NOT allow overnight parking due to local ordinances.

You know you could take a right turn and head west once in awhile.

In June, I did go west and visited my son and his family in California!

I've gone from CT to Greensboro NC & back 4 times since Labor day.
Spend the nights in between at Cabelas Hamburg PA, Walmart or Cracker Barrel.
Cabelas Hamburg or even Cabelas East Hartford CT has free sewer dumps.

Can't predict what will happen by March. We traveled most of last summer under threats of travel restrictions which were not strongly enforced outside of state parks. We made no reservation more than a week in advance because we did not know what was going to happen.
Normally though, FL gets booked up between January and late March. By mid April, the exodus is well underway. In spite of the Canadian travel restrictions, our park is almost full right now.
