Ernest Deposit....
Hey Guys/Gals,
Getting ready to purchase a 2018 Travel Leisure Unity MB. Just did a factory tour and was absolutely blown away. Excited to do business with them.
My question though, is specific to dealers. We are going to have to order a new build from the Leisure Travel factory. Which is fine. What I'm trying to figure out though is what a "Normal" Ernest deposit is for something like this. For me, shopping around for a dealer seems just as important as finding the right rig. So that's what I'm trying to do here, and protect myself in the process.
I've purchased new vehicles that were factory builds and they required a $1000 non-refundable Ernest deposit. But as we all know, the RV industry is not comparable to the auto industry. Haha. Just having a hard time finding any info for this scenario online. Hence the reason I'm here.
Hoping somebody out there may know the answer here.
Cheers,
-Adam

We put $5,000 down on a $212,000 motorhome, then $25,000 more cash when it came in and financed the rest in 2002.

Deposit money is dealer dependent, they can set any amount they choose. They can also specify whether it is refundable or non refundable. In the case of non refundable, you want to put down as little as possible.
When we ordered our coach, we put $25,000 down

I wouldn't put down any more than I absolutely had to. If the dealership goes bankrupt prior to receiving your unit, guess where your deposit went. RV dealers are like rattlesnakes. As long as you've got a good grip around their neck, they are manageable.

Not saying it's likely to happen again, but......
Read this thread before you buy.
Vacation trip is ending up terrible.

There's numerous others pointing out issues with the MB chassis, most related to tech glitches and getting them figured out on the road.

To some extent it will depend on the rig you order. The dealer has to commit to buy it from the factory, so he is on the hook for 100% of the wholesale cost. Maybe not a big deal IF he knows he can easily sell it to somebody else, but if he feels it is a unique-to-you configuration or otherwise hard for him to sell, he may ask for a larger deposit or even 100%. It's just something you have to discuss and work out. You no doubt are committed to the purchase, but stuff happens and he is the one at risk if something goes wrong and you can't complete the purchase. Illness, lost your job, whatever..
$1000-$2000 is typical, but it can vary widely.
