I never got sick from direct contact with sewage. I did get sick once though watching some one else do it though.
I was standing at a urinal in a bar rest room when a fellow came in and stood next to me. He was obviously intoxicated. As he was going # 1 he choked a couple times and barfed in the urinal. I was doing my best to get away but I did see the fellow reach into the urinal and pick up one of his false teeth plates and pop it right back into his mouth. I ducked into the stall next to the urinals and began to throw up myself. Luckily back then I still had all my natural teeth.
After a couple minutes I gathered myself up and left the establishment. It took several days to get the visual out of my mind. The fact is I can still see it and that happened back in 1962.

It's already headed down the toilet...
For the OP, like others have pointed out plenty of times, the odds of that are extremely low. Gas station sushi on the other hand is a 50/50 at best. It was undoubtedly something you ate, or just a bug going around the area you were in last weekend.

I don't use rubber gloves and have never had an issue. I use a baby wipe if there is not a sink handy. Other than that no special precautions.

I never used gloves either. All of my ucky suff is inside the sewer hose and not outside.
Back in the day, I used to walk through sanitary sewers filming problems with the pipes. Although we had hip waders on, we never wore gloves. I always raced to the exit manhole to try and be the first one up. I hated to be behind others whos boots were steping on the hand holds I was reaching for

We never have been sick from this, so far. But, I am very concerned with these nauseating wet goopy public dump sites. I really have to find some shoe covers.
And even if it's your familiar wife and self germs, our modern sanitation system doesn't expose you like our RV systems do. Don't underestimate the power of germs.

I've been dumping my tanks since RV's came with tanks, sometime in the late 60's or early 70's. Have never gotten sick from it.

The old nose itch is something that occurs from time to time but it's easy to take care of. Sure don't want them germs on my nose so I make sure to lick em off my finger before doin any scratching.
Have never used gloves at the dump station but I always make sure to have the outside shower and the pump soap dispenser primed and ready for clean up afterwards. I point the shower out and turn on the valves. Then when it's time to wash, bump the pump switch to the on position with my elbow to get the water flowing. Never gotten sick from doing the dump!
