Smile Extended warranties

My first time on IRV2, I hope I'm asking this in the right section: we are considering an extended warranty for our '16 class c, does anybody have any suggestions or recommendations? (Warranty company or any other suggestions are appreciated )

My suggestion: avoid them. I bought one with my first RV. When I went to use it, the dealer had kept the money thus I had no warranty, I had the papers that said I did, but still no warranty. When I called the dealer I found out they were in bankruptcy. I have heard of many similar stories. RV extended warranties are not like one's for a car. I do suggest roadside assistance. I use CoachNet. Should I have an issue on the road they will help or tow me to a shop to get it fixed. I would then pay the shop.

Actually, by law, they aren't a "warranty" they are a service policy (contract). You are both bound by the contract language and there are lots of ways for them to wiggle out of paying.
One person had an transmission failure, the service policy stated that he needed to perform all required maintenance. The ins company requested his maintenance records and they found that he had missed an engine oil change by 750 miles so they denied the transmission claim. They did eventually refund his money, but didn't pay for the repairs.

If you decide to get one--google the company for 'xxx warranty reviews' to get other purchasers results with claims, probably you will find a lot of bad reviews on most of them.
Also, the warranty/policy should be an 'exclusionary' one--it states what is NOT covered.
This is preferred over one that is an 'inclusionary' one that tries to say what IS covered--very easy to weasel out of the inclusionary ones--whatever you do, READ the fine print.
Way more bad results on the internet on extended warranties then good ones.

Hello and Welcome!

I would suggest if you have disposable cash for such dodgy "products" that you donate that money to a real charity. You'll derive a much deeper sense of satisfaction for money well spent.

When I was researching for an extended warranty I found a company named Wholesale Warranties that seemed to have the best reputation. They sell exclusionary policies which I think are better and easier to understand.

You will read horror stories on here about bad experiences. I had an extended warranty on my diesel pusher and was darn glad I did. It paid for itself several times over. Now I have a class C and have decided to self insure because the cost of the coverage is more that I think is warranted.

Different strokes for different folks, as they say. Doesn't hurt to check out your options and then make an informed decision on what works best for you.

Extended warranties are a lot like a Casino, you MIGHT come out money ahead, but the odds are definitely in the house's favour.

I have never read conclusively about the payout ratio of these extended warranties, so it is really hard to make any definitive claims.
But if you account for sales commissions, overhead and profit, I would make an educated guess that on average the actual payout percentage hovers around 30-40% of gross premiums.
My opinion is to avoid them. Put your premiums in a cash account for expensive repairs. Over 10 years that will amount to quite a stash to cover things. If buying new, you are pretty well covered for the expensive stuff for 3-5 years anyway assuming you take care of the rig. And if you can't pay out of pocket to fix your rig in the unlikely event of major problems, you probably should not be buying one in the first place.

Extended warranties are money makers for the warrantors...not the warrantees.

I see this is your first post... Welcome! This is a subject that gets a lot of discussion in here... If you do a search of the IRV2 thread files at the top of the page, you'll find a LOT of threads on the topic and almost as many opinions. Be sure you read the coverages, what's not covered, learn about consequential damage coverage, exclusionary coverage, what's required to maintain your RV, how to make a claim, and so on... And remember... Buyer beware! Good luck!

Not a big believer in extended warranties......Except maybe for a class A.....For a class C I would self fund/insure.
