Extended Warranty

Hey there, we are expecting our new RV later this week. We are newbies to RVing and wondering if most people here would recommend purchasing extended warranty on a new motor home?

Also, having a difficult time finding inside winter storage solutions this late in the year. Any recommendations for areas with lots of snowfall?

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!

Congrats on the new rig! I don't recommend extended warranties on RV's. I think that in most cases you will be better off putting that same amount of money into a special bank account to be used only for repairs. I bet you will be way ahead at the end of what would have been your warranty period! JMHO
Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Coke v Pepsi. Ford v Chevy. Extended warranty v not. Same old story. Don’t buy car insurance because you have never had an accident, and suddenly you have one, what have you saved. Put the money in a savings account and one major repair wipes it out. If you were buying a 5th wheel or a travel trailer maybe not buy a warranty. But if you are buying a motor and transmission it is a wise investment. I have always done better than break even with a warranty.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new rig.

You are joining a good group of folks here with good information to share. Read the various threads here and ask questions as they come up and/or add information if you can.

Your new rig should come with at least a one year warranty so no extended one is needed. After that if you bank your premium each year you most likely will come out ahead in the end.

Good luck and enjoy the adventure!

On your original question related to storage in a heavy snowfall area, if you are talking about damp, heavy snow I would be concerned about weight & potential for water penetration. Best to keep it shoveled off if that is the case. If light snow, then I would leave it until temperatures are forecasted to warm up. With no heat in the RV, it should just sit there providing insulation.
