FEB 2023 - Garmin RV GPS - what do u recommend

2008 Tiffin phaeton motorhome 40’ DP full time
I have a Garmin RV660LMT & had had for several years
My sister asked me what to but so I started looking at newer ones
My technology has advanced in just a few years
I think I need to upgrade … I like the grade warnings I see in newer units
There are a ton of different Garmin RV models
I can’t find a good comparison chart so I can really see the difference
A caveat … I currently use the RV660LMT with the route plugged in but also have a older Garmin from my car running concurrently because if the Garmin says for me to take a road I wasn’t expecting I can zoom in or out on the other one to figure out what’s going on … or to look at traffic if there’s a jam
Or my copilot can do it so I can focus on driving
I’m sure there have been many thread on gps’ but the technology changes monthly
What are your thoughts … what do you recommend … have you seen a useful comparison table somewhere … thanks in advance

Screen size is a major factor for me which is why I use the Garmin 1090 with its 10” screen. The current version is the 1095 which includes satellite overview.

I bought the Garmin RV890 recently. I had never been a Garmin fan until I used this latest version rescuing a friends motorhome when he had a medical emergency. It isn’t faultless( none of them are) but it isn’t given crazy routing like some of the earlier Garmins I used.
The one feature that I really like is being able to change routes easily on the fly “ route shaping”. We often see a sign to something or just see an interesting road and decide to go off route. On the current generation of Garmin RV GPS’s it is just a couple clicks on the touch screen to change the route.

I've had numerous GPS's over the years. First one was a Garmin Quest. Man! That screen was small! Last August I bought the RV890. Used it a few times. And it worked fine. But. Then I saw the RV1095 last month. And after researching it. I bought it. The buying factor was the screen size among other things. (Mod Edit)

We have the 1090 and really like it a lot, it's the 10" screen and has a large enough screen you can get a lot of information on it. My understanding the 1095 has satellite pictures.

The RV version comes in a 7", 8" and a 10" screen so pick both your budget and space needs.

You can compare the latest Garmin GPS devices HERE.

Select the models you're interested in and then select COMPARE.

I am in much the same position as the OP, I have a Garmin DEZL 770, and each year I think, is this the year to upgrade, then I watch the youtube reviews on the latest models, see all their issues, and say to myself, wait 1 more year and see what is out there.

I bought a new Garmin Drive 52 last spring. Its driving directions have induced a bad habit in me: I talk back to it and call it a Dumb A** or a P.O.S. at least a couple times a week due to the crazy directions it's giving me in towns and cities. It has told me to drive through buildings. Last Friday it had me make a right, go over one block and make a left, then another left, then a right turn back onto the street I was just on... when I could very well have simply continued straight the entire time. Oh well, at least it keeps me from being bored, right?

I wish I knew a better brand I could recommend....

I’ve got a 770, the computer chips are so slow in them they don’t have time to steer me wrong. You really have to set things in the garmins to have it not screw up. If you tell it Rv , it will route you 30 miles around in a 2 minute trip just because they don’t have the info in their data base to know the 2 minute route is passable for you. It really does lack but don’t blame it for something you told it not to do. Like no toll roads, prefer freeways, etc.

Had a "770" for almost 4years, and it no complaints, except changing "States"! Turns out it was "Operator Error"!

Updated it & bought the new "1095", and it is fantastic, thus far. Used it for two trips, and the "satellite view" is nice.

I think the "key to success" with any of these Garmin's, is to keep them updated, but more importantly, "correct information" when loading parameters, etc, is necessary!

@Jabber Jaw , I was discussing the 1095 with the Garmin rep at the Tampa show and he said that the satellite view will automatically split screen when you reach the destination so that you can see your approach. He did not have a unit to show me this but I was intrigued. Is this true and do you find it useful? Just wondering if it’s worth upgrading g from the 1090?
