Some homeless? (yes we have a homeless problem here, homeless but not RV-less) guy wanted to dump on my dime, but I had already closed the self-locking cover. (Many homeless here are from other states, but that's a topic for a different forum). Quick and easy, even a hose-bib for rinsing. The state of Cali-topia has a lot of really bad ideas. They charge a $10 recycling fee for used tires when you purchase new ones (maybe other states do too). But because of that you don't see a lot of tires on the side of the road.

When we were in Colorado Springs a few years ago, and the local Camping World was not allowed to have a dump station because of the city's geniuses, though it was not earth-friendly. Where do you think people dump in CS because of this "oversite". I think we end up at a Conoco or Circle K, Sinclair or some local gas chain (I forget the name). I can't remember the exact cost, I wanna say $15, but my wife said free with gas purchase.

I'm the last person who would say the Government should do something about it, but free or low cost hazardous waste disposal sites would be best for the environment. I'm pretty sure household hazardous waste drop-offs are free here in the Peoples Republic of California.

One last thing... I think I mentioned it before, but a nearby self-serve RV capable car wash has $10 dump station. Believe it or not, its on the honor system! (they do have a CCTV cam recording you).

PS: California is the state that passed a law saying gift cards sold here cannot expire or be charged a yearly fee (so eventually the balance disappears). That was a good one. I think it caught on nation-wide.
Here is another one from California I'm happy to see. I'm old enough to remember when they didn't have to pass a law to get free air and water at a gas station.

its sad to see it, but the "service station" is no longer. I think its a good to have air / water at a local fueling station. I remember the phase out of this, started about the time every 7-11 / mini mart started switching to more of a mini mart serving fuel, vs the service station with a small food display inside. Pretty sad they have to make a law to get it back.

Full Service?

My first job was pumping gas at a local Exxon station (at 14 or 15). Minimum wage was $2.75 (I think) but for the first paycheck or two they paid me $1.75 an hour (they told me in advance of course). Full Service was pump the gas and wash the windows front and back. If they asked I’d check the oil level and even check the air pressure in the tires. I think it was 0.50 cents extra a gallon or something (maybe a quarter). Those were the days.

PS: went to Costco gas today to fill up “The Coach”. It took 2 times because $150 max on the Costco credit card at a time. $150 + $99 to filler’up. OUCH! [moderator edit]

PPS:
Lord, I apologize for that there, and...be with the pygmies in New Guinea, amen.
