It really should have been fun. The old gentlemen were next door with their vintage racing machines.

I've seen a few awnings with holes in them from embers.

What's a safe distance from the RV, in your experience?

Thank you
I fail to understand the question. RVs have wheels. Are you asking how close to the fire ring you should park?

Your fire pit/ring needs to be as far from your RV as possible. If it is anything like the infernos that a neighbor (across the road!) built this fall, 50 feet is too close since we were down wind from his sparks and flying embers along with having to breathe his smoke for a couple weeks (we could not move as we were on a seasonal site)

If there is any alternative, I won’t stay at a park where fires are in use. I am allergic to the smoke. I carry a gas fireplace that has no smoke or embers and can be placed anywhere I want it. Safe and legal in places where open fires are not, and when I turn it off, it is off.

All depends if you have a white man fire, big fire sit far away. Or Indian fire, small fire sit close.

I am as easy as anyone could be to get along with. However if I feel my safety or the safety of my family or property is at risk by someone else's carelessness I will let them know.
I won't endanger you if you don't endanger me. I would have no problem dumping a pail of water on someone's fire if I felt threatened and they didn't rectify the situation after I let them know.

I can't imagine that kind of response to a neighbors fire having a good ending. Consider getting ahold of a camphost of Ranger first before taking matters in your own hands that may escalate beyond what you can handle.

A couple of weeks ago we pulled into a spot and they had a pile of wood ready to light, when I opened my slides it’s was about 2 feet away. Thank goodness they didn’t go to light it so I didn’t have to say anything. Just curious if someone builds a fire and it damages your rig by fire or smoke, how hard would t be to get damages?

You wouldn't be "good" at my fire...you'd have to go through me to get water on the fire and a physical altercation can start really fast. [mod edit] you never know how physical altercations will end. But, I also wouldn't have a fire that was a risk to anyone else. You better be damn sure it's a hazard and not just in your opinion a little too close before raising a stink.

Years back, we where at a state park NW Ark. Burn ban in place, pine needles about 4 inches deep all over ground. Wildfires burning in KS, OK, and TEX. Fire ring in next site was over 40 ft from my camper. I heard the woosh of a fluid start, stepped around to where I could see "WHAT THE SAM HILL YOU DOING!"
I'm just going to have a little fire for my kids to roast marshmallows I told wife to get her purse and dog, start the truck, and call 911. Pulled my knife and cut my FW hose loose from camper. My hose would not reach the fire ring, but I started to spray as close as I could reach. Another camper grabbed the hose from the site and started to spray what he could. Likely less than 2 min before a pickup with tank/sprayer and a ranger was there. By the time the fire was out Marshmallow Dad was in cuffs...
