Hi Mike,
I think the coach is a 2004 Newmar DSDP with about 60K miles, Cummins ISL and Spartan chassis.

Insurance...shop around at the independent agents...not the big companies.
Extended protection plans...vary greatly. Read the contract in full noting all exclusions before you sign up. Generally it is a money maker for the dealer and company and not such a great deal for the RVer. Best bet is to take the money for the "policy" and put it in a bank account and wait until you need a repair and use it then.

I have GMAC insurance, I "shop" each time it comes due and have never found a better price. I have an extended warranty with Interstate that I am very happy with.

We have been with GMAC insurance for several years but their rates have gotten too high and upon shopping I have found much less (about 1/2 the cost) with a few other insurers. I have found that the best bang for our buck is to separate the car and truck from the motor home insurance coverage with two separate companies.
Keep in mind that an extended warranty does not cover any maintenance and wording of what is and what is not covered is crucial at the time of a claim. I have found that brackets are covered but braces are not. Make sure you know what you are buying and that a repair shop does not use any words in their diagnosis that are not covered.

All good advice. I have had 4 different insurance companies. GMAC was the first to go when the premiums got too high. Each year I shop and go with the lowest bidder for the same coverage.
I have used Star for an extended warranty. One my previous coach, the cost of repairs over 3 years exceed the cost of the warranty. I was also able to take the coach to my choice of shop, not back to the dealer.
My current coach is new and still in warranty (for a couple of more months). Once that is up, I will happily go back to the repair shop of choice.
