After 28 days you need to be out of all state parks for one day. There is also a max # of days you can stay. I think its 56 days.

Not to discourage you but we put our name on "the list" at many places on both sides of the state that you would find meet your criteria. Every one of them was minimum 3 month stay, some 4, some 6. Cheapest was probably $5K for 6 months. Of all the parks we put our name in, we received only two calls back when they finally opened to newcomers for next season; one in the Port Charlotte area, one in Jensen Beach (Atlantic side).
You may get lucky with this pandemic creating fear in some who may decide to cancel (or become indecisive), leading to openings. Our theory was, we were going to take a place just to get our foot in the door for the 2021-22 season. We got lucky and got into the place that was at the top of our list, but we were diligent about calling them frequently, so they knew we weren't just tire-kicking.
You may also broaden your search by looking inland just a little farther than you might have planned. It will mean a little further drive to the beach (this year) but you will be warm!
Good luck to you. I hope you find the park that meets your needs!

Start your search early. We are currently sheltering in place at a brand new park in Summerfield Fl. Our intention was to start working our way back home to Alaska the first of April. We have since signed on for the year. It's my understanding they are already full for the fall/winter 2020/2021 and have several on a waiting list.

Just a side note: The Tides is beautiful but someone is going to lose a lot of money. They installed all the sites BACKWARDS! They put the hookups on the wrong side of each site! When we visited there (2nd visit) in March, vehicles were backed in that were meant to be pulled in (losing their lake view in the process), some had utilities running under their rigs, some were using the utilities from the next site down, etc. Not what you expect from a luxury RV park, and with their amenities, it IS luxury. They'll fix it but it won't be cheap.

And after the repairs are made, you will see how they financed them with
"New Updated Rates".

Yep! Unless of course, if the builders fix them on their dime rather than fighting a losing battle in court.
As expensive as they were, they actually had a great deal, IF you wanted a year-long lease. $10,800 for the entire year, ALL utilities included. Even electricity. That's a pretty good deal for a really upscale park.

What is the difference between the East and West coasts? Why would we pick one over the other?

Personal preference. For us, the beaches. I love to watch things at the beach: surfers, birds, big waves, etc. You get very little of that on the Gulf side. Again, it's what do YOU like to do, not me or anyone else.
We are bikers, runners, and hikers. We will definitely miss all that Sarasota had to offer in those regards but we will have good options on the other side, plus the far superior Atlantic beaches.
Like has been mentioned, it might be a case of take what you can get for the first year and while you are down here, use that time to explore your options for the NEXT year. You'll have a much better feel for it than trying to do it online.
Good luck!

One reason may be because the Gulf gets Red Tide and the Atlantic doesn't. In 2017 it lasted 16 months. It can occur in any month due to winds and currents. It's very toxic and kills marine life including dolphins, fish and manatees. It causes respiratory issues and burning in humans. If you don't swim then you'd have no concern.

Beaches is the big difference. Lots more available on the east coast. On the west coast there are almost none north of the Tampa area. And below it fewer available. The east coast is just about all beach from Jacksonville south to Miami. Plus it is more urbanized and built up. Essentially all city from Palm Beach south thru Miami. And lots of northern invaders in that area from the NE especially.

True, except that last line. If this stuff is present and you are anywhere near the beaches, you will feel it in your lungs and eyes. For some, it is incredibly discomforting.

We didn’t experience red tide in Naples last December. But, wow, my wife got bit to heck by NoSeeUms, which we had never heard of. It’s some kind very tiny coastal gnat or bug that is light enough to be blown away by a light breeze. Apparently they come out in the early evening.
She got a few dozen bites on her lower legs from just one nighttime walk. They itch like heck, swell up, and bleed for about a week. It took months for the marks to mostly disappear.
I got just one on my neck and used a styptic pencil on it. You get it in drug stores and it’s kind of a chalky substance that apparently causes blood vessels to constrict. It worked great at stopping the ongoing bleeding. Hers bled like the bug had injected an anti-clotting agent into the bite. Made a mess of the bed sheets, but only on her side.
We never experienced them in the Bradenton area.

Wow! We were in Sarasota the past two winters and never dealt with those! Got bit by those damn ants and that was almost as bad as poison ivy, but not the unseen kind.
We could definitely tell last year when the red tide was an issue. We could feel it in our eyes and knew it was time to leave Lido!

You guys are giving me great information. Thanks for your help. I didn't remember the Red Tide. While we don't swim we do like to wade and walk along the beach daily.
Our summer trips are usually to the closest beach to Indiana, Gulf Shores, and we stay within walking distance of the beach, so that is important to use.
My wife and I talked and our list of reason, in order:
1. Warm weather, no freeze.
2. Near a beach (half hour drive at maximum)
3. Seafood
4. Away from family for at least a few weeks
Of course cost of the facility is important as I am now on a limited fixed retirement income.
We don't need a community, but then we have never been to a resort or area community so we don't know if that is a true statement. Maybe I should try one to see.
I really do appreciate the help from the community here so maybe we would like to live in one.
Again thanks for our help.
