Hi paz,
At this time, the RV Value Card (at least my card) does not eliminate the $75 cut off. This is at the RV pumps and at all the J's I have been to in the last couple of months. I do admit I have not been to more than a couple of Js in the last couple of months.

I've only been to a couple of Flying Js recently myself, and my RV card didn't work at all - no discount, no elimination of the $75 cutoff. That didn't matter because my credit card didn't work at the RV lanes either. DW went inside and they held her credit card until I was done pumping. At least if you go inside there is no cutoff, unless they pre-charge your card and you guess an amount that's too low.

The strange thing is my Flying J RV card worked at a Pilot, but not at Flying J. J's web site says you don't need a new RV card, but Gary Brinck (RV Roamer) says he saw an email posted on another board that says you do, so I guess I'll ask about a new card next time I get to a J.

The whole thing is a mess, but like I said, I go there because I know I can get in and out of the RV lanes.

I stopped in a Pilot at the Mi Oh line and picked up a RV card and left my credit card at the desk while I got fuel and got the big 5 cent discount for gas got to NY and tried to do the same and had to declare the dollar amount I wanted first they ran that and when the pump shut off at $160. there was no discount.

It certainly would not have been worth the hassle to try and get the big discount if I would have got one at all.

A couple of years ago, I applied for the Flying J Master Card (actually issued by the Transportation Alliance Bank). Until this year, it would always allow me to fill the tank. On a trip in September, that only worked about 1/2 the time. At the other Flying Js, I had to insert the Master Card again to continue fueling. That way that I managed the fuel tank, we never found out what happens if you try to insert it a 3rd time.

Pikot/FJ says the TAB FJ Mastercard is no longer accepted as an RV Rewards card, but it is still a valid Mastercard. It appears that some stations still accept it, or did a few months back. I haven't tried mine lately.

I fueled last Sunday at J in Carlisle, PA with no loyalty card the pump did NOT shut off at $75. Went inside to get a loyalty card and they said they knew nothing of the sort. Asked a second person and she said they were out of them...

I used Flying J many times during our summer's travels. About the end of August my Rewards card quit working. I went inside and the nice woman at the counter said I needed a new card and she had two stacks of cards - one for RVers and one for Truckers. I have used the new card at three Flying J's and always get 3 cents off on diesel and 10% off at Denny's.

Gas discount is only good for 2 cents off per gallon of gasoline (available only at travel centers with RV lanes) if you got 5 cents they made a mistake. Or are you counting the cash price as a discount? Did the Pilot have RV lanes?

And when you got to the second stop, you may have used up your maximum 100 gallons of gasoline per month.

Diesel is allowed 300 gal a month at 3 cents off per gallon of diesel (initially, only available in RV lanes)

Paying 10 bucks to dump is a bargin-depending on tank size you may get more than that back in fuel savings.

I've finally reached a conclusion in all this and that is, "there is no rhyme, reason, sense or cents in any of the FJ/Pilot fueling stations procedures".

I stopped in early Oct and then two weeks later at the same Pilot in Tennessee and had a different experience each time...neither good.

As far as saving fuel by spending $10 to dump, just how much fuel would be saved by not hauling around 75-100 gallons of "sewage"? Hmmm, maybe a savings if I leave the DW, the dog and groceries at home too.

Flying J and Pilot

From all the negatives I have read about these two retailers I think I will avoid using them----bad news sure travels fast, doesn't it?
Is the one cent discount worth the hassle? Putting in 50 gallons means only fifty cents. If their price per gallon is two cents less and add in the one cent discount you still only save $1.50 on fifty gallons.

My blood pressure and not getting upset by these outlets is worth the $1.50. Given that enough of us RVers avoid them they might take notice when they are hit in the bank balance.

Fueled yesterday at J 9in Ripon Ca. Took CC and J fueling card to cashier No cut off at $75, received $.03 off for diesel, and as usual fresh fuel. With J discount card dumping is $5. Best of all they have increased the turning pattern entering the pumps.

I fill at FJ they have been good to me; First my card used to cut off at $75.00 that is the card not Flying J.; Second I was waiting to Dump at one of there Dumps;; The Jackass in front on me pulled up to the station ,Pulled open the valve And let his sewer Run all over, Took the water hose washed some of it in to the dump . I walked over to him. He said the only time he hooks up is in a Campground. Now how sick is that; I was also sitting and waiting At a dump, to dump. The guy infront of me complained about garbege cans. He had a 25 pack on empty bottles, He dropped them down the sewer drain; I wittnessed these things Happening; In my opion I really don't know what the answer is. I know what is happening;; We all Pay because of some Brain dead Scum;; OH, almost forgot, when I drive up I take my credit card in to the counter give it to them tell them the pump , They actavate it I pump my fuel go back in sign it get my card , and go on my way. I have allways been treated with the utmost respect;; Life is good ;;

This filling the tank has become a real PITA. Many times after swiping my card for the third time I find out I only needed another few gallons to fill.

As for leaving my CC at the cashiers desk while I fuel, I don't like doing it, leaving card out of my sight. Most any financial institution will advise you against it. I carry an expired card and will leave it at the cashier station. So far never had anyone catch it. When I come in to pay I just say use this card instead, and hand them the good one. I think there are quite a few Rv'ers starting to do this.

I realize the station owners loose a lot of money because of gas theft and they can't afford to trust me and I also can't afford to trust them,"their employees." Sad it's come to this.
