Flying J Rules Change 2010
 Just got back from a cross country-I was told by Flying J manager that the stand alone RV gas pump was going away, along with the "free" RV Dump (It now costs $10.00 prepaid) They want a prepaid (credit card or cash) before you start to pump, the 1 cent discount for RVer went away.
This is just a start-I did not find out about overnight stays because of some nasty RV jocky yelling for the manager.
I have a 34 foot A and depended on Flying J to rest and eat, I even had thier locations downloaded on my computer.
The rule changes seem to stem from a merger with Pilot Truck Stops.
If any one has heard different let me know--right now I feel as if I've lost my best travel buddy.

I just got back from North Catolina.
The flying j at Winterpark Ga. gives NO 1 cent discount (at least after putting my awards card in) I got nothing. Parking lot was full of overnights. Dump was not locked, I don't no anything about a charge as I didn't dump.
I stopped at the pilot up the road from the flying J to check it out; (my impression!) it was a dump.

Regardless of the Flying J/Pilot web pages hype, the quality of service and facilities, fringe benefits and price advantages ARE steadily fading away - just as some of us stated when the merger became known. Crap flows down hill - and when 2 outfits merge, you can bet yer mortgage that the operating practices of the POOREST quality one will dominate - NOT the other way around!
And yeah - those who insist new and rising charges are just fine with them, and fully justified, can rejoice - because we are certainly bound to see lots more of the same...

Agreed;
but untill they start charging for overnight stays I'll still buy my fuel there. I use the flying j for overnight stops on most of my cross country trips.
The name of the game for a lot of businesses is to give less and charge more;
It's called free enterprise.

I didn't get the discount at FY in Waldon, KY when I stopped there in September, I used a Flying J RV Real Value Plus Card @ pay at the pump.

Hopefully Gary- RV Roamer will jump in on this thread. He has a great deal of info from another forum that maybe he'll share. No pressure Gary, but....

Just completed a 9800 mile trip over 5 1/2 months and used 1225 gallons of diesel. Purchased 95+% of my fuel at Flying J's. One stop at a Pilot.
At the beginning of our trip my credit card worked at the truck pumps (I always use the truck pumps since I do not care for the RV islands). Sometime in the middle of the trip the card stopped working at the pump. So the new routine is to park, walk inside, run the card thru for the anticipated amount of the purchase, walk back out, pump the fuel, walk back in and get the final receipt.
Change is always a pain, but I still end up with fuel in the tank. However, at a higher price.
I used to avoid Pilots due to this payment proceedure, but since the proceedure is now identical at both Pilots and the J, I now have many more places to stop for fuel.

Mergers = less competition which is rarely good. The antitrust laws are rarely enforced anymore. We are slowly (maybe not so slowly) falling back to the era of the robber barons. The only thing that keeps me at the Flying J now is the gas pump which is more accessible for my 39 ft gasser and pumps that don't shut off at $75.

We stopped at the Flying J in Lansing Michigan and it now shuts off at $100. That had changed from the last time we were there about 3 wks prior.

All the new info is on the FJ website - look here:
RV Loyalty FAQs - Home
Basically they aren't accepting the RV card at the truck pumps anymore, at least not before 1/1/2011. It still works at the RV island, if you can get in and out of those. No RV card at the truck island means no discount there, and you pay the credit card price as well.
You have to get a new RV card - just ask at the fuel counter at any FJ and they hand you one.
Some FJs may still accept the old card and some may not give any discount, even with the new card. There seems to be a haphazard implementation of the new policy across the country, and some clerks seem to be ill-informed about what that policy is.
You can stay overnight in many truck stops - it doesn't have to be an FJ.
