Ford 3.5l twin turbos

Was wondering if anyone is having motor issues with these. I manage a mobil repair service and we have a fleet of 6 transit 250 with the 3.5l twin turbos. They are all 2018 and 19s all with between 30000 and 100000 miles. Here is the list 4 of them around the 75000 mark needed full set of injectors and plugs. One of those 4 is at the 100000 mark and is getting injectors and plugs again. 3 of them have blown turbos. 2 have had something seize in the intake. All of them need a full brake job by 30000. Tires every 20000. That is double what we were getting after i convinced them to align the trucks. One is on its 3 radiator. The fleet is on a routine maintenance schedule oils are change about every 5000. Mostly highway miles and as a fleet the average fuel economy is 14.5. Is any one else not impressed with this motor/ truck. Are we expecting to much from this vehicle. Before 2018 we always ran chevy express 2500/3500 with 4.8 5.7 6.0 and didn't have any major issues until they got to the 375000 mark. I'm don't want to get into the ford/chevy fight just want to know if any body else is seeing the same issues.

reason
fleet drivers drive like they stole them.

hardest test on a product there is.

just like government trucks, driven to death

i have had two 3.5 eco boost twin turbo vehicles....ZERO issues even in the 2016 expedition that i drove pretty quick

Even if these are fleet trucks they should not have this type of problem if they are on a preventative maintenance program.

But being a Ford I can understand the problem, JMHO is that Ford's quality is not good based on a couple vehicles that I had owned. My neighbor just sold his Ford back to the dealer because they couldn't fix the problems he was having. Gave him full price including taxes.

With pretty much any vehicle made when you start talking about issues you'll always get those that chime in with saying they've had zero issues with theirs.

A bit over a year ago my son in law who knows everything suddenly decided to buy a new pickup and came back with an F150. I asked him if he got the 5.0 engine. He said no, because on paper the 3.5 made more torque for pulling his camper. I told him that's not how he should have picked his engine. He should have walked around to the mechanic's area and yelled "I'm going to buy an F150. Should I get the V6 turbo or the 5.0?" And when EVERY mechanic within earshot yelled back "THE 5.0!" then.....

If you sell the most trucks then you will have reports of the most problems. Simple math.

If you are only getting 30,000 miles on a set of brakes, your problem isn’t under the hood, it’s in the seat.

In general that may be a true statement

But we are talking about a fleet of 6 trucks with 4 of them having substantial problems. The math doesn't look good.

I had a 2017 winnebago paseo on a 350 transit for two year's I put about 11000 miles on it .It had 17000 total on the unit. I had great luck and thought the motor had fantastic power and between 14 and 16 mpg. I would have no problem buying a 3.5 again.

I would buy the brake issue is in the seat if we got the same mileage with our previous trucks but those all went 60k is on brakes. I know fleet drivers drive them like they stolem but I have 1 guy that is 70 1 in his 60s 3 in 50s and 1 that about 35.

I agree that it has a ton of power. Off the line I think it will take my 6.0 chevy.

Lot's of heat in those little motors. Your company works them hard everyday, not just on occasion pulling a little trailer.

They are sensitive to type of oil, synthetic or synthetic blend is recommended and or long oil changes I think the Ford intervals are too long..
Even though they are designed to be shut off hot-- turbos will coke (burn the oil inn the turbo) oil if engine is shutdown immediately after a heavy load. Plugs do need to be changed at 60,000 miles. Injectors can be affected by a number of things- cheap fuel- poor refilling conditions etc. Safe Travels

I've never thought turbos were a great idea on truck motors that are working hard. On a sports car or a sedan, they're great, though even the turbo on my Ford Focus ST went out at 59,900 miles. I was fortunate that it happened then as the warranty was 60k miles.

Never had a problem with my old Ford 460s. Just put gas in them... LOTS of gas.

Brake wear has more to do with the type of pads being used than the vehicle they're on, unless of course the pads and rotors are undersized for the load.
