Ford 460 EFI stalling problem when slowing down
I have read over 100 posts about this issue, because my coach did the same thing last year. Very hot 100+degree day in Oregon, traveling south towards California. As I rolled in a rest area at higher altitude the engine sputtered and died. While waiting for AAA I tried to start the Generac generator to run the AC. Nothing. Cranks but no fuel delivery.
2 hours later AAA shows up. Coach starts up fine. Of course. Pulled out with AAA driver following to next town (Roseburg). Take exit and engine quits on ramp. 15 minutes later starts and get off the road. Get towed 100 plus miles back to Portland next morning. Next day coach starts right up and idles fine. But the Genny still won't start unless I blow air thru the fuel line BACKWARDS, from Genny to fuel tank. I can actually hear the tank pop and expand. Genny will now start and run for hours, but the next day no start again. Blow air thru and fuel delivery begins again. This goes on for 2 weeks, while I replace every user serviceable part on the Generac AND the inline fuel filter to the engine.
I've read the endless posts about the fuel pump, coil, sensors, etc.
Bottom line? AFTER I finally remembered that the Genny wouldn't start after the engine stalled that day in the rest area, I put a new gas cap on the coach.
Problem solved. Bad gas cap was allowing vacuum to build in the fuel tank, stopping fuel delivery to engine and Genny.
Cost: $12.
This simple solution seems to be the LEAST mentioned problem in all the threads.
Just my 2 cents. Actually my $12.
